Who should start on Friday: McCown or Griffin? (1 Viewer)

Griffin. McCown is a so-so backup, but Griffin has improved quite a lot and hasn't even reached his ceiling yet. Mccown's stats in his few starts for other teams are not good at all, and I don't have much faith if he had to fill in for any length of time.

Unless there is some decision from the coaching staff in the balance I'd have to say Griffin. See what he can do. If Brees has been out this long no way would I even dream about putting him on the field.

The Saints used an active roster spot to block St. Louis from taking Griffin from the practice squad. So they saw something in him.

So far Griffin has had a good offseason, training camp, and preseason game. Heck, Jeff Duncan has anointed him QB of the future already.

I think you have to start Griffin and see what he can do with the first stringers. Because next week Drew will be back with the ones for his final tune up.

If RG4 can win the backup job, you can keep just 2 QBs for the season. And use that roster spots on saving some of these safeties (Ball and Warren). Especially if we plan on playing a lot of Big Nickel. Someone is bound to miss time during the season.

I'd really like Griffin to be the #2 this season with Kilgore on the PS. We have too many talented players on the 90 to have 2 guys share a clipboard. Since we don't want Griffin to get poached, that means McCown has to go. Even though I like the guy, his ceiling was reached long ago.

But I just don't see SP doing it. I think he starts McCown.

God forbid that Brees is truly incapacitated, McNown gets hurt during preseason and we begin the season with Ryan Griffin at QB. Talk about panic, that's a nightmare from the pit of hades.

Griff will start. I believe they will rotate and Drew will start the third. Then Griff will split the fourth game with Luke to determine the 2 qb. The. The season starts

Brees will either play one series in the first quarter or not at all. Not a chance in Hades he plays in the third quarter behind the second or even third team OL. Right now I'd give Brees a 70% chance he doesn't play, 30% chance he does. My guess is Brees will play a half in the third preseason game and that's all. No point risking him aggravating his oblique for games that don't count for squat.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

I like the way Griffin can forget a bad play and come back and make the very next play a good one. He seems football smart, and seems to have decent feet in the pocket. His arm is accurate, release is quick, range is adequate.

God forbid if that scenario you conjured up really did happen, at the very least, it'd be a die-hard's adventure. If he were to finish even at .500 with average stats, guess what, DRAFT PICK!
