Joining the vast majority of the posters in stating the blatantly obvious it's Pierre Thomas. (y)

The three most beautifully-executed screen passes in team history had PT as the ball carrier and were all TDs --all in the Super Bowl year in '09. They came versus the Patriots in the regular season, versus the Vikings in the NFCCG and then in the Super Bowl itself.

As a nod to a previous era, though, it would've been awesome to see Dalton Hilliard in the Payton offense. Often times, Hilliard made the yards after the catch all by himself. The Mora-era linemen weren't nearly as agile as the early Payton-era linemen.

If he's not the greatest screen back I've seen then he's definitely on the short list. Faulk was unreal. Brian Westbrook was so good in the screen game. PT just had a knack for it.
Going back a bit,but you can add Lenny Moore and Chuck Foreman. Moore is considered the Godfather of the screen.

PT was one of the best to ever do it. Like, in NFL history. Patience, contact balance, vision, short area acceleration...he had it all. Props to Sean for seeing it in him and being willing to cut a 4th-rounder to keep him.

I've just always viewed Pierre Thomas as our 4th round pick from 2007.

Neither he (outside of a special teams TD against Seattle and week 16 when he blew up against Chicago), Meachem, nor Bushrod were immediate contributors in their rookie seasons, but all 3 very much would go on to play major roles in bringing us a title.

I'll always remember Payton telling one of the announce crews "hey guys, it wasn't even close" in regards to the "competition" between Thomas and Pittman.

That's not what I saw. He was targeted and the refs ignored it.
Sad ly it was a legal play. Thomas did make a football move after the catch, and there is no targeting rule in the NFL.
That's only in college.

edit- I should have said no targeting rule that year. The NFL does have a similar rule now.

Pierre is obviously it, but with Bush, Sproles, AK41 and Hilliard are impressive competition. Anyone else remember Alvin Maxon from the mid 70s? He was the first true screen sensation RB I remember the Saints having.
