IMHO Bryce young was listed at 6ft, but was really 5'10". He played at a weight of max 195lb at Alabama w/ one of the very best O lines in college football. He then went on to weigh in at 205lb at the combine, but would not weigh in at his pro day. Leading teams to suspect he couldn't keep his weight up at 205lb for his pro day. Young isn't built like Kyler Murry, he doesn't have his weight centered in his butt and legs, which allows QBs to be durable in the NFL.

I see way too much risk to reward in this pick, so high in the draft. C.J. Stroud is 6'3" 214lb w/ similar talent as Young, but has the size to start early and go through the growing pains of starting on a bad team. I don't think we can say that about Young.

IMHO neither are worth a top 5 pick, but teams will over draft them anyway. In fact this class isn't much better than last years crop. The QB postion didn't get any better this yr, but the teams got a whole lot dumber.

Bryce Young QB

Alabama • Jr • 5'10" / 204 lbs

C.J. Stroud QB

Ohio State • Jr • 6'3" / 214 lbs

That short arse Drew Brees had a dreadful career, too. Although genuinely intrigued by your assertion about weight distribution within body mass and it's determination of durability. Thought provoking stuff, has anyone with experience/credentials in the field written about this?

Very N/S 😉 given where they'll both be picked.

The thing is Youngs floor is pretty high.
The other 3 QBs floor is Ryan Leaf.

I do think Stroud will have a great career but there is some risk and does need to grow.

I only hope the Panthers pick either Richardson or Levis.
Young = Tua rinse and repeat.

Thank you for proving my point. Drew (though talented) wasn't durable early, and had mixed results. Btw......Drew weighed in at 6'1" and a legit 213lbs, a full 3 inches taller. And a few pounds heaver than Young.
So durability only matters within a selected window of your choosing? Not over a 20 year career? Got it.

In addition, you're wrong. According to this article, Drew's first NFL game lost to injury came in 2005. Prior to that? As a high school senior in 1995...
https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/...er the past 25 years,his final season in 2020

Drew was barely over 6 feet at 72.3 inches. But I'm not as concerned with a couple of inches as you clearly are.

Physical stature doesn't always decide production and longevity. If it did, they'd leave player selection to computers and idiots.

Drew is the anomaly anyway, but show me the guys killing it at below 6' under 200lbs.......................I'll wait!!!

So height/weight is the king, but when you get an example of being wrong, that one doesn't count because it's an anomaly? An anomaly is what disproves stupid rules like yours. Unfortunate fact (for you).

So, I'm stupid now? Calling me names is you idea of discourse? I have nothing more to say to you.
I said your rule was stupid to be fair. But then again, giving me the old "I'll wait" treatment has hardly reflected well on you, either.

Felt more like you made an absolute, declarative statement, got some disagreement in the form of a contradictory example, tried to refute it, failed, moved the goalposts and then got in a huff.

Being more even handed, I'd say that the risk factors involved in a player of Young's stature definitely will give NFL evaluators pause. Some will care more about it than others. Others will see something beyond that, whether rightly or wrongly.

But the application of minimum criteria will always mean there are one or more times that those criteria led the team away from a good or great player. To pretend otherwise would be foolish, at the very least.

If you don't like my premise, show me the players doing it now in the NFL.

Btw....you called my idea stupid not me. I read it wrong. no issue with you.

If you don't see the goalposts you're moving, I can't help you. Let's leave it as a civil disagreement, before the mods edit us to oblivion!

I just have a gut feeling Young will be Tua and Sam Bradford rolled into one. It is not just his height, he has a slight build, that will be hard to keep weight on.

Just for full disclosure: In my original post I did put IMHO "In my humble opinion"

I hate the comparisons to Brees too, because Brees was arguably the most accurate and anticipatory passer in league history. How can you compare a college prospect to that?

That said, I also hate the Young comps to Kyler Murray. Murray’s biggest weakness is probably the most impressive aspect of Young’s game, which is mobility and avoiding pressure within the pocket - not bailing out of a clean pocket. I think he’s Deshaun Watson with better anticipation, but without the prototype size.
