Why Do I Feel So Disconnected? (1 Viewer)

It's because the Saints are stuck in purgatory.

We are headed towards yet another 7-9 season. We beat the worst team in football by the skin of our teeth, our QB broke his hand, we have literally zero offensive weapons outside of AK.

Our best offensive talent received his 5th serious concussion and might have to retire, we have no head coach of the future, and very few good young players.

Even if we manage to fall backwards into the playoffs there is no hope of winning anything, only worsening our draft pick.
Purgatory is a good description. Our wins and loses now are meaningless. We’ve already won too many games to,get a decent draft pick, and no way we make the playoffs. So for the rest of the year results don’t matter.

I feel where you’re coming from for sure. I think the DA tenure really sucked the life out of a lot of us. More of the same will do that. Couple that with the arrogance of ML and not listening to the fans or admitting the product on the field was sub-par. That is a recipe for disaster and in our case…apathy. I’ll admit, Riz lit a revived spark in me for this team. Win or lose, as long as we care and put out true effort. Not to mention, it’s nice to see something other than a corpse with a headset on the sideline. We needed fire. It’s going to take time to be in the mindset I was in for the SP/Brees era, but we’ll get there again hopefully.

Nice post, this is pretty much how I feel....Powerless to do anything but watch the disaster unfold under DA.....I felt the same way the last couple of Haslett years......

And the notion that ML was going to wait until the end of the season (supposedly) to fire DA means I really don't want him making football decisions for the Saints any longer.....

We can turn it around but we need new and/or better leadership that can hire the right coach.....

However, the falcons choking their season away always is a good and funny thing.

Don't forget the Cowgurls absolute trainwreck this year, it's sure been fun to watch.....
For instance, I wanna see Kamara reach 1000 yards rushing - it stinks that he had to miss the finale in 2020 and lost the opportunity to play for it. I’d like to see MVS prove himself worthy of remaining on the team. I would like to see Taliese Fuaga continue to show why he was a great pick. I want Tyrann Mathieu to increase his interception lead since entering the league. I’m pulling for Rico Payton to get his first career INT. Cameron Jordan is still climbing the sack total leaderboard. I know these things seem like frivolities, but they’re still very real and make fanhood fun for me.

I spent literally a full decade or more with this outlook (back in the 70's, early 80's), focusing on individual player stats because the team sucked......I really don't want to relive it.....

DA killed the golden goose. Now we're just in a holding pattern waiting to see if the next head coach ends up being another Payton or another Roberts.

Although I did just Google "Worst Saints Head Coach" and Google returned this:

Get to play spoiler, embrace the dark side

So, I watched a video of a guy talking about this and it does put things in perspective:

“Stop wasting your time getting upset over a professional sports team. **** them. They don’t care about you yet you are wasting your energy on a loss that they have already gotten over. They still got paid. You did not. Don’t waste your energy on a thing you cannot control.”

Now, I realize that this is spitting in the face of being a fan but at the end of the day, it’s not wrong. I am a fan of sports yet I have to keep in perspective that they are millionaires getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to play a kids game that we have to budget around to see. It honestly doesn’t make sense when you think about it yet I’m in that number of being a fan. It took me a long time to realize it but if they win, great. If they lose, okay. I may not like it but it is not worth the energy spent on yelling, fuming and having family members angry with my actions over a game that I cannot control being played by millionaires who have no idea who I am nor care about you or me.

With that said, just enjoy it for what it is: entertainment.

Loomis decided after Drew and Sean left he would not start paying the bill, but double down.

He never planned for Drew's successor. He never planned or worked on Sean's successor.

He priced the team out of signing good players to second contracts. He priced the team out of signing a-list free agents, and why would any agent send a client to NOLA when the team is so constantly dead-capped, and has such a meh vet QB starting?

The seasons have stunk for 4 years now, and then each time after we have Loomis dangling potential for 8 months the same way an abuser dangles the false potential of the abuse ending to his victim.

The abuser is not going away, but we will all swim again in the potential of the off-season. I have loved Rizz's passion but we new head coach who excels at talent eval and will immediately play and develop all or most of the guys they draft. Youth is the only way out. We saw it work with Haz when he started, we saw it work with Sean. New coach, new youth on the roster. It's the only way out because it's the only affordable way for the GM so helplessly addicted to spending on old players, which has led to the crappy oblivion.

I haven’t really been passionate about the pro football since the “no call” game. I can’t convince myself that it wasn’t intentional and how can you care after that? If the culture of New Orleans wasn’t so wrapped up with the Saints I doubt I would even watch them anymore

My Capitals are in 1st place of the Metropolitan, and my soccer team in Mexico is about to play the final, going for their 3rd championship in a row, so I'm a bit disconnected too. I got sucked in the first 3-4 weeks of the Saints season, but like BB King said, the thrill is gone. I've even missed a couple of gameday threads.
