Saints Why give up… why? (1 Viewer)

The Falclowns lost, and seem to be in a tailspin. Bucs play the Chargers next week, with 4 games to go.

Consider this:

1. The ‘90 Saints won 4 of their last 6 to finish at .500 (8-8) and claimed the last NFC wildcard spot that season.

2. The 2002 Saints were sitting pretty with a 9-4 record, needing only one (1) more win in their last 3 games (all vs. teams with a losing record)to CLINCH a postseason spot. Welp… Jim Haslett continues to start an injured Aaron Brooks instead of playing a HEALTHY Jake Delhomme. Results: Three (3) straight losses to finish at 9-7, and missed the postseason! 😡 My hide is still chapped about that season!

It ain’t over, y’all. Yes, the odds are NOT in our favor… but if (and that’s a BIG “if”) the unlikely happens, you never know how much an underdog can rise to the occasion in the playoffs.

Draft, schmaft… let’s enjoy the ride until the fat lady sings!

Seems some forget about the 2007 Giants. Literally backed into the playoffs losing to the 15-0 Patriots in w3k 17 because 3? Other teams lost also so they got in as a 6th seed. Proceeded to win 3 playoff games and faced the Patriots again who were 17-0 at that point and the biggest Superbowl under dogs since the Bears/Patriots in 84. They won that game to become the biggest Cinderella post season team. It has happened before and so can do it again!

Yeah let's make the playoffs so we can draft middle of the pack and be mediocre again for another season....

Narrative: Tampa will win the division. We will not. We have no road to the playoffs outside of winning the division…. Which we wont. So every win at this point is a step away from the true rebuild the team needs to actually become competitive again, and build draft capital. Play hard. But play all the young guys and let them take their lumps. It’s impossible to give up when you’re already finished. There. Narrative built.
If these were simulations and you got the chance to hand-of-god everything, sure. Fire up the John Madden football and go nuts.

As for me, I know those are real people playing real contests. I don’t want to see any players commit to losing. It’s insulting to me as a fan.

The team should absolutely go out there and try hard every week. If you want someone to check out, you can influence one person to do that: yourself. You can not watch the games. You can not log in to the fans discussion site and tell the fans to get on board your loser train.

My role is to be a fan, not a wannabe general manager. The players aren’t quitting, I won’t quit supporting them.

They’ll be playing a young QB, which should take care of things.

I have to say that although I hate it for Carr that he got hurt, giving one or both of the young QBs starts with an actual NFL OL might be a good thing for this team. We can find out if there is anything there and get a start on figuring out who our long term QB will be.

I watch Saints football because they are my team. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Saints will not make the playoffs this year. But I will be watching every game until the final gun sounds in Tampa on January 5th. The reason is because the offseason is a long one and hope springs eternal again in September.

I don’t have to fool myself into thinking that the astronomical formula for ‘earning’ a playoff berth could happen here. I don’t need that hope to keep watching the Saints games because I’ll never give up on my team for as long as they continue to exist as the New Orleans Saints.

The current odds of the Saints winning the NFC South stands at 1%. I’m not sure what everyone here is going to do when the ’fat lady’ finally sings, but I do believe she lives in Washington DC. 😢

Technically, the game will be played in New Orleans. That means....the fat lady will be in NEW ORLEANS. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Love your optimism, but this team ain’t going to the playoffs. We are pretty much out of weapons, and they can’t run block, and the defense has regressed badly

So, if the Saints are finished, why are you wasting your time here, reading and posting? Why not go enjoy the holiday season, check back when we make a coaching hire, when the draft starts rolling around, etc.? Don't get me wrong, I often like your posts and opinions, but if you're done, why waste time coming to poo-poo on the parade of the faithful? When they fired the coach, I was for it, and said now go either win them all, or go lose them all. Today was ugly, but a W, so I'm going to keep riding until we are mathematically eliminated, which it feels like most of us here will do, too.

Why waste your time if you've really given up? Your narrative might be built, but this team's technically is not. Geaux Saints!

I appreciate your positive outlook.

However, it’s time to position ourselves for the draft. Jake isn’t beating GB or Washington. Likely he won’t sniff beating TB either. Raiders are 50/50

That’s a lot of words for me to give the simple answer of…. Because I’m a Who Dat. Just because I don’t believe they can compete or win anything now…. Doesn’t mean I don’t care. I care about the future. The now is done. Nothing wrong with admitting that. I want to see what we have going forward. It’s why I watch meaningless preseason games, and pay attention to the draft. One game means nothing…. I want consistent success. All fans should.
