Saints Why give up… why? (3 Viewers)

We have less then a 1% chance of making the playoffs, every win just keeps making the draft pick that much worse its really that simple.

But lets say we did make the playoffs, I think the chances of winning a singles game are less then .1% and that's gets smaller and smaller. This is not a good football teams, we barely beat maybe the worse team in the NFL right now. So its nigh impossible to imagine making the playoffs much less winning a game.

As a fan, I have zero issues with anyone still rooting for W's. When I am watching the game for that three hour period I don't root for the team to lose, but during the week to week talks with friends, I understand that there is value in the team losing. I also don't blame the coaches and players for trying each and every week. I don't condone tanking, I just see the merit that does come with losing when you don't really have anything left to play for.

Making the playoffs for making its sake isn't exciting to me. I'd rather get on with hiring a new head coach and start reading draft threads than see another game like todays game.
Exactly. For a lot of people being able to say, "At least we made the playoffs!" is some sort of triumph. A successful season. Backing into the playoffs and promptly getting bounced does absolutely nothing for me. I know I'm supposed to be rah rah just win baby but these past few years have forced me to become a realist. If we're going to bad then let's be really bad. At least we'll have something to show for it.

That’s what many said about the ‘87 Vikings. They supposedly “backed into the playoffs” with an 8-7 record in that strike-shortened season.

So what happened? Vikings went on the road to play the teams with the best record in the NFL (….not just in the NFC) in the postseason in ‘87:

* beat the 12-3 Saints 44-10, then

* beat the 13-2 49’ers 36-27

Not only that, but they also played at Washington in the NFCCG, and narrowly lost to the ultimate SB winner 10-17.

Jerry Burns (Vikings HC) was short and feisty like Rizzo. Not that it amounts to much, but stranger things have happened. 🤔

Yeah anything can happen I guess. But I just don't see the talent on the roster to make a run at a Super Bowl right now. Maybe it comes down to how much optimism you have left. I'm all out. It's a weird feeling because I'm usually super optimistic until the moment we are mathematically eliminated. I'm just wore out. From the No Call on it's just been a downward spiral for me.

The Falclowns lost, and seem to be in a tailspin. Bucs play the Chargers next week, with 4 games to go.

Consider this:

1. The ‘90 Saints won 4 of their last 6 to finish at .500 (8-8) and claimed the last NFC wildcard spot that season.

2. The 2002 Saints were sitting pretty with a 9-4 record, needing only one (1) more win in their last 3 games (all vs. teams with a losing record)to CLINCH a postseason spot. Welp… Jim Haslett continues to start an injured Aaron Brooks instead of playing a HEALTHY Jake Delhomme. Results: Three (3) straight losses to finish at 9-7, and missed the postseason! 😡 My hide is still chapped about that season!

It ain’t over, y’all. Yes, the odds are NOT in our favor… but if (and that’s a BIG “if”) the unlikely happens, you never know how much an underdog can rise to the occasion in the playoffs.

Draft, schmaft… let’s enjoy the ride until the fat lady sings!
:munch:

Picking higher hurts this team. Thats the only answer I got. Otherwise sure keep winning for morale.

This exactly. We're holding onto what we were. Coaches... players... we're not who we were with Payton and Brees.

Imagine being 8 years old. It snows. EXCITING! You get your sleigh and at the top of the hill you hop on. Only to move 1 foot every 5 seconds down the hill.

2017-2019 we were at the top of the hill and we've just been slowly, but assuredly moving down hill. Its time to hire a new, exciting head coach akin to spraying some WD-40 on the bottom of that sleigh and starting the climb back up the hill.

So, if the Saints are finished, why are you wasting your time here, reading and posting? Why not go enjoy the holiday season, check back when we make a coaching hire, when the draft starts rolling around, etc.? Don't get me wrong, I often like your posts and opinions, but if you're done, why waste time coming to poo-poo on the parade of the faithful? When they fired the coach, I was for it, and said now go either win them all, or go lose them all. Today was ugly, but a W, so I'm going to keep riding until we are mathematically eliminated, which it feels like most of us here will do, too.

Why waste your time if you've really given up? Your narrative might be built, but this team's technically is not. Geaux Saints!

Can't speak for him, but....
1. I'm a fan of the team and still interested in what's happening
2. BIFC

All the folks that think a top 5 or 10 player in this year's draft is worth the message it sends to give up.

Luckily that doesn't appear to be the case with our coaching staff so I look forward to seeing how much fight they have versus the Commanders next week
This. I can handle losing when it's a case of the other team being better like the Rams. I can't handle tanking or bone headed losses like Carolina and Philly

We gonna beat the Commanders, Packers and Bucs with Haener? Ok! Not counting the Raiders cause they bad too so toss a coin on that one. We aren't winning the division. That Giants team is horrible and we hung on. Let's be real.
If the Giants game was the SuperBowl and "we hung on" we would be going nuts right now. It only takes one point to win!!

If that game would’ve been the Superbowl, it would've been the worst ones ever. Because if anyone thinks that was a good game to watch, you got in the good stuff too soon. We won is the only good thing that came out of it.

I mean, we barely held on to beat, perhaps, the worst team in the NFL....that game, unfortunately reminded me of so many of the DA led games where the offense just couldn't score, but the difference is we actually won the game.....

The playoffs aren't happening, the bright spot is that they have been playing hard, the effort is there. Right now I have to be happy with that....

Really?
Can't a poster just enjoy the banter, regardless of opinions? Especially if the poster lives outside the Saints' market?

The question asked, I just watch the games, on TV, but anyway, there is a difference between "giving up" and lowering your expectations based on what you see week after week and the records of other teams.
