If it ain't broke don't fix it. And I don't believe that Loomis, Ireland and Payton think their way of evaluating talent and drafting players is broken. So, why would the guys at the top change what they have done for years and select a LB, QB or WR in the first round because some chat room mock draft predicts it?

The Saints like IMPACT players in the Round One and, let's agree, all these positions can produce impact players. But, in my opinion, there is one impact LB in this draft class, Simmons, and the other LBs are "tackling machines". Do you think Loomis wants a fifth-year option on a tackler? Plus, rookie LBs get fooled a lot and, unless the LB is elite with an elite skill set to rush the passer or play pass defense, then all LBs better excel on special teams. And the Saints aren't drafting a guy at #24 to play on special teams.

Forget QB.. SP has a QB room with Brees and Hill. There needs to be added a veteran QB2 to backup Brees. Add a rookie and that would be four QBs on the roster. Would you draft a QB at #24 then try and sneak him on the Practice Squad? And, regardless of what high-school nerds ranting from their childhood bedrooms say, the Saints depth chart won't read QB1-Brees, QB2-Hill, QB3-Burreaux..

WR is tricky but just not feasible. The Saints don't need a player at WR1 or WR2, so the team will be drafting a player to compete for WR3. The pick of a WR at #24 is so unlikely that many mock drafts are moving away from the Saints selecting a WR before the middle rounds of the draft for good reason. And, with NFL Analysts predicting up to 25 WRs being drafted in the first 3 rounds, that's true position depth. With no burning need on the roster and position depth in the draft, there will be no need to select a WR before Round #3..

I'm still believing that #24 will be a CB. The team needs one and PJW and/or PRob at CB3 excites no one. Besides, what is more of an impact player than a CB that can give you steady play opposite your CB1-ML?

GO Saints!!

I can't agree about a QB. Everything I'm hearing is that if the right guy is there, we are taking him at 24.

Hill hasn't even signed his tender yet and is 30 years old. We might not even be able to retain him after 2020. Brees is 41. At no point in Payton's tenure have we needed to draft a QB more than this year. Not saying we certainly will, but you can't compare how we may react this year to years past.

Yeah, I am torn on what they will do at QB. It certainly appears that this is Brees last year. If so, is Payton truthful in that he will turn the reigns completely over to Hill next season or will he take a flyer on a talented but raw QB like Love?

Couple years ago we were gonna take Mahomes until we got leapfrogged.

I wouldn’t mind grabbing Hurts in round 3 and turning him into our own Russel Wilson.

We could get our star LB in round 1, QB in 3, and WR in 4. Claypool maybe?

'13 Vaccaro and '16 Rankins I got on the nose before the draft started, but we had top 15 picks and the spot was easier to predict bc most pundits also called those picks, so these are probably the 2 picks most people got correct.

Those are the 2 I was very certain about for a while before the draft, but there were also a couple more I was good with too. They are in my post record if you care to look it up, and I also had another name I went by from 2007-2010, but I don't want to divulge that name.

- I had zero idea about Davenport in '18.
- When Lattimore was available in '17, I knew it'd be him although I thought maybe Hooker at FS was an option there, but I had zero idea about Ramrod later on.
- '15 we went with Anthony at LB but I thought we'd go with LB Kendricks from UCLA - god I wish we had. So I was correct w position but way off w the player.
- There were rumbles about Cooks in '14, so that wasn't a shock when we traded up for him, but it's not like it was a prediction I got right or anything. I wanted WR Marquise Lee if we had stayed put.
- '11 I thought we were gonna get Ingram, but then we got Cam, and then traded back up for Ingram, so all of that was a shock, and I was way off.
- '10 was a complete shock for me with PRob. I had no idea who he was really. I don't really remember for definite who I thought we'd go for or need - looking back at the draft maybe Sergio Kindle for some reason.
- '09 A lot of people had Jenkins slotted to us, and I think that's what I thought too. I also thought Cushing or Matthews was an option.
- '08 most people knew it'd be Sedrick Ellis.
- '07 Meachem shocked me just like the PRob pick bc I thought we were gonna go TE. GOD WHY DIDN'T WE DRAFT GREG OLSEN INSTEAD?!?!?! I have made that rant before about the butterfly affect of picks for Shockey, finding a TE, having him help from the WR/TE corps transition after '11, pairing him w Graham....
- '06 Everyone knew it'd be Bush once Houston went with Williams.

I didn't have much time to pay much attention to the draft process before '06 bc I was in high school and was always busy with sports and other things.

I really am torn this year though as I have no idea what to expect. I feel like we usually look for a starter to draft in the 1st, and we usually trade up when we are this far back, but we don't have a 2nd rounder this year, so that may be tough unless we plan on using next year's 1st and or 2nd to get our guy this year.

I could see us moving up for one of the top WRs or LBs bc I think those are our biggest needs, but we don't usually go with what I think is the biggest need. We also love going with OL, DL, and DBs in the 1st, but we have all of those starting spots secured as of right now, so I also don't know about that.

So after all of this talk that no one will probably read, here is my prediction:

If we stay put, and if available, I think we go w LB Queen or Murray. If both are available I think they take Queen. If neither is available then I think w go with the best DB available - S Delpit or one of the CBs like Johnson from Utah.

If we trade up it will be for one of the top 2 WRs, Juedy or Lamb, if they fall past 15. I do not think we move up for Riggs bc those speedy guys would be kinda wasted in this offense right now. LB may be a trade up if Simmons falls.

If we do not trade and those LBs and DBs are gone, we will take the best OL/DL available and idk who those guys are in the late 1st.

The biggest hole on this team is who is going to lead the team going into the future (QB Position) so I agree there has not been a point in Payton's tenure where QB was as big a question mark going forward than now so I see that position as one that needs to be addressed in this draft.

Taysom Hill better sign his Tender or moderate term contract extension before the draft, or the SAINTS could very well draft a QB at #24.

They do take the BPA approach, but also Ireland said needs are factored into that approach. There are a lot of directions we could go in round one, but I believe a top 3 need will be addressed with the pick. For me, top 3 needs at the moment are LB, WR, and corner. Factoring in the future, we’re talking QB, RB, possibly safety, DT. It will be interesting to see who we pick.

I bet you it’s still WR. You say that they would be drafting to compete for WR3 but that’s not how I think Payton or the team view it. They want someone to compete to be another weapon on the field. And another talent to step up when someone gets banged up. We were woefully short at the position last year and we will not be this year.

I agree sorta that LB is a big hole for starters, but the second biggest hole IMO is QB.
If we can't move up for Tua if he drops, and LB Queen, or Murray are grabbed before us I look for QB Jacob Eason, or LB Zack Baun.
I was watching the Combine re-run (boy I had nothing to do) and Payton was in the press box being interviewed when Jacob Eason was running his 40, and Coach Payton started talking about spin rates measurements, and velocity measurements, and Payton had a peculiar look in his eyes with a very small smile as the Commentator called out Jacob Eason as he ran by them.
A small tell. But a tell. I think if we can't get Tua, look for QB - Jacob Eason sometime early. Coach was surely impressed with Eason's spin rate and velocity, and a 4.7, 40 time.

I agree with the comments about not passing on a legit QB prospect but it would be nice to add a bluechip LB besides Davis.

Position won’t matter, if a player is ranked 10 on their big board and falls to 24 they aren’t gonna pass on him because he’s a linebacker or WR to take a guard who is ranked 20th on their big board

I’m pro Jordan Love. I really want to see what Payton can do with him and all the talent we have on offense. He may be a bust on a lot of teams, but I believe we are one of the few that can turn him into the next elite QB for the next 10 years
