Will be a dereliction of duty if the front office does not get Winston help at WR before the trade deadline (1 Viewer)

An emphatic yes. I posted in another thread that you cant waste this defense its a championship caliber one. A great defense in the NFL is very short lived. Ask Miami and WFT. Both teams had great defenses last year, now they are bad.

Getting the right pieces to help improve this offense will greatly compliment this defense
exactly

We don’t even need a big name WR. Just one that is above average that creates separation. One that opposing defenses have to respect. Heck, bring in two of them

If Sean wanted or wants a WR, I'm sure we would sign one. What I'm trying to figure out is are those guys that good in practice?

Im sure they are not. SP puts more emphasis on players knowing his complex system. However, veteran WRs know different variations of the offense. The verbiage is different. Guys can switch teams and get the system down by studying hard. I’m not sure why we don’t ever make those mid season trades? It’s not like they would be completely lost. Sanders got it down, with no off-season, training camp, or preseason games. I believe he said that he studied non-stop for the first week just to get the plays down and then it was a matter of getting reps. Which came when the season finally started

When Thomas comes back, the group is totally fine. I know they have struggled up to this point, but having a guy like Thomas taking a good deal of attention, guys like Calloway can be more in their designed roles. Especially if the Ingram move works out and we can be less predictable in the run game. Payton is one of the best offensive minds in the NFL, the team was designed a certain way and circumstance has really kept that vision off the field. I have trust that when it all comes together we will be fine in that department.

If anything, I think a TE could be more impactful than a name WR.

Great question.

Then why in wide world of sports are we not at least rumored to be in the mix for a receiver by this trade deadline or any other? I don't get it.
You and me both don’t get it. I referenced why I believe SP doesn’t make those trades right above or below this post

I don’t think we will be fine even with a healthy MT. Callaway is basically a #3 WR option and Harris has shown that he gets banged up. That still leaves us void at the position. Our STs is too important for Harris to miss an extended amount of time. Want to guess who is our backup PRs? Callaway and AK41. Not ideal
Sure we have Ty, but he hasn’t fielded all of the return duties.

I wonder if that veteran WR that refused to “try out” for the team was Golden Tate (in the off-season)? At this point, I would just sign the dude just bc, if the team continues to go the cheap route. Runs great routes and has fresh legs.

I don’t think it’s fair to call him a #3 when we haven’t seen him yet as a #2. When you play us, you want to take away AK first. But then what? Right now that’s MC. I actually believe he will be a great two but if he got bumped further because of talent brought in I would certainly be ok with that. I just don’t see it happening like some do.

He’s borderline #2. It can go both ways. Sometimes he looks the part and sometimes he doesn’t. A true #2 WR pretty much resembles a #2 WR most of the time. Callaway isn’t there yet. It looked like he was learning things by having Sanders on the team, but who is he learning from this year? We have no veteran for him to look up to. No one to teach him the little intricacies of exploiting a defense, finding soft spots in the defense, how to help out your QB under duress, how to use your body to your advantage, etc. He’s just out there trying to maintain. That’s not what we need from a #2. His game needs more work.

By appearances, I would say this is correct but I just want to hold off on judging it until CGM is drawing some heat away from him. I mean, even as a number 2, some teams are going to be able to cover you really well so he will have to become better at all things, like getting off a jam at the line, etc. We should know more in the coming weeks. Still a big fan of this kid though.

Keep in mind this pesky thing called the salary cap. Ingram was had for essentially a bag of Zapp's chips, and I believe the Saints are only on the hook for roughly half of Ingram's $1.5m base salary.

The Saints only had $1.6m in cap space before the trade for Ingram. They'd have to be extremely creative with contracts to get any kind of wide receiver who can immediately impact the offense right now.
The cap hit for Ingram will be about $1.3 million. (I think game day roster bonuses count against the cap.) Allen Robinson is out of the question without some SERIOUS magic by Loomis. His base salary is $17.88 million. Cooks on the other hand would be a piece of cake for Loomising. His base for the year is only $2.5 million. Loomis could create a couple of million pretty easily.

Significant help, not Hogan or White or some other nonsense BS.

Allen Robinson
OBJ (although that's always a constant injury risk)
Brandon Cooks (but does he want to come back)
Devante Parker (health might be an issue)

I agree 100 percent

Look Jameis hasn't been the greatest qb in the league, but he hasn't been that bad either. He's made some mistakes, but there has been clear improvement in his game since coming over.

He could be a lot better with some more help at the receiver position.

He does however need to get better with his short route accuracy.

All in due time
