Will Jameis be on the move? (2 Viewers)

You are wrong if you do not think there is a market for Winston's services. Vikings and Jets are probably at the top of that list. But he has a lot of value for us as a back up QB that we believe could come in and the offense would not fall off. We are expecting to make a run at the division title. I do not think that we will be offered enough compensation for us to pull the trigger.

If there is a trade market for Winston the news will leak. EVERYTHING leaks in the NFL. I doubt there is much of a market for him at all, but it only takes one team. I like Winston, I like what he brings to the sideline, not sure that I like what he might bring to the field, but also not too sure that I want a rookie as QB2 either.

No im talking about JW. JW has all of the traits except reps. (Reps to iron out his game). Obviously, he's not going to get reps, but maybe more time behind Carr, and who knows. TBCH, I've always viewed him as on-the-cusp to breaking out. (Its frustrating because you want to see your vision come to fruition)

There's one type of QB that strikes fear in me, and thats a pocket QB that has a huge arm, tough as nails, but is also highly mobile. My question about JW is, can he still be mobile? The last time we've seen him play as a starter, he's been hampered by injury or play design. But if you noticed, and I could be wrong, but JW in the preseason looked slimmer and mobile. Ive said a few times, that the legs go first as a Qb ages, so that's something to keep an eye on. Carr has borderline but acceptable mobility. (It really helps to have Taysom to compensate). In this league you have to be able to extend plays.

This is what I think of Haener since his suspension:

Not Fredo....hahahaha....I'm glad I was on mute during this call. lol.

I mean, he isn't going to sit behind Carr 2 seasons. If we don't ship him out tomorrow, he is gone at the end of the season regardless. But at the end of the day, this is the bed that he made. Him deciding the restructure and come back put his future in Loomis and DA's hand instead of his own. That Vikings situation would have been a perfect; they are loaded with a great playcaller and O-line, with the defense coming together under Flores. Even if we cut him and he had no market in March, he would be on the short list for a lot of these teams with no red tape. I love the Saints like everybody else (should..lol) but our relationship ain't tied to business...lol

In their defense, there's Viking fans on twitter that mentioned it immediately after the game.

While I suspect this is Winston's last year with us, I don't want to trade him.

1st) Carr has already gotten hurt, while our OL is better lately, it still isn't all that trustworthy

2nd) Rarely does a team go through the season where they do not need their backup QB

3rd) Could you imagine having to put the rookie in to man down the offense for anything more than a few plays? He is so far from even being kinda close to ready, it would be a utter failure.

We just aren't really in a place to trade JW. The return pick we would get would never even come close to the value we get from just keeping him on as the backup in case of an injury.
Ok, I didn't know that JW's name was mentioned by Vikings fans. I agree with the rest. About Haener: What I'm mostly concerned about Haener, is that he's been (potentially) juiced on roids since day 1 and he frauded his way into the NFL. This is 100% speculation because we werent told what the drug was? If it was reported, please advise. A man without juice may be a fraud. So I'm not ready to hand the keys to a deflated roid-less QB. I hope it comes out it was weed or something harmless.

The Saints are still on the hook for his salary. 10 million in dead money, 2024 if he's not on the roster. Don't know if it would be worth it

I like Winston as a backup. But is he better than most other teams backup qbs? Idk. It’s highly unlikely any team gives up a draft pick for him. We may be able to get a middling player though. A good backup lineman would be nice.
Truth! Winston would be welcome as a backup just about anywhere, but not with the price being another draft pick(s) or other key pieces. And this team needs bona fide starters on the o-line, not just “good” linemen. It’ll be a big-time need on day 1 of next year’s draft.

Oh, you're saying that he sealed his own fate and will be released because he restructured and therefore put himself into a salary cap casualty scenario? I wasn't thinking about the business implications.

Idk about anywhere. Many teams like to use their backup position for young guns they hope to develop. But I do think there are a few teams that Winston could upgrade their backup qb position.

He sealed his fate by not being released when we picked up Carr and deciding to restructure his contract (1 year) to do us a solid on the books..lol. Him deciding to come back benefitted us more from a financial perspective than it did him, as he not only took less money now to have dead money pushed to next season but now he also misses on prime opportunities. Financially, I believe that most of his $4 million was bonus so his base is low. We are already on the hook for $10 million next season whether he is traded now or not. I was just saying that if we were to look at this individually, he might have been better off being released by the Saints and see what happened next as opposed to putting your fate in Loomis and DA's hand.

Who was going to sign Winston to start had he been released?

He made more money here than anyone would have given him to be a backup.

I see. in his defense, he was coming off of an injury so his market wouldve been low so he took bird in hand instead of the birds in the bush. (I think that’s how that goes lol)

Quite honestly, none of us knows. As neither you or myself are in any front offices, all we really have is speculation. Crap, nobody was us was crazy enough to give Carr the contract that we did. Perception is a heck of a thing, especially.......

Don’t wish for something that could turn into a disaster. Imagine what would happen to this team and the fan base, if the Vikings picked up JW, and he smoked us in two weeks. Ala Culpeppper back in the day. Cullpepper to Moss still haunts me
The dropped snap that turned into a td in that game was a low, low point.
