With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (11 Viewers)

Man I remember how exciting that was when we got him. Everybody thought he was a near lock for Houston to take him. Little did we know that time was the beginning of the Saints golden age.
Jets was gonna give us 2 first and their 2nd....we should've took it.

Even that is subjective speculation and not objective fact. Lot's of Heisman trophy winners and projected 1st round picks have been out performed at the NFL level by non-Heisman winners and 3rd round or later picks.

Would you say that Kamara was not as talented as the RB's drafted in the first and second round the year Kamara was drafted?

It's all subjective speculation which is why it's so weird to me that so many people seem so confident they know how successful or not any college player will be in the NFL. Nothing about the future can ever be known. We can only ever speculate and guess about the future. Even when the future turns out as we speculated and guessed, we still just speculated and guessed.
Most draft picks are not just guesses they are EDUCATED guesses based on many things and based on percentages. It's not like teams are throwing darts at players pictures on a wall

Again, never said don’t do that. Just said we don’t have to do it at 9.

Also, all I was saying is let’s say you have your position of needs as 1) Edge 2) DL 3) IOL, 4) Safety 5) RB. You should have the top player at each position rated and then take the highest one. That’s BPA and targeting an area of need. This other guy just made an assumption that anyone said don’t take BPA. It was his misinterpretation.

And if anyone thinks that he’s the only game changing RB in this draft they don’t study the college game enough. NO, I’m not saying that’s you at all. I’m just saying.

He’s absolutely not and it’s not even a known fact that he’ll be the best RB to come out this draft.

So in your mind what if the best player available at your number one need is ranked worse than the best player available at your fifth ranked need?

The first part, you're also correct, I don't "know". But I also know that it doesn't matter what he thinks of Carr. He's going to lean on the run game his first year to start. If you truly understood football you would know that. The players will have an entire new offensive scheme to learn and get synced with. Even if every offensive player returns, it will take time for them to learn the scheme and get in sync. Training camp is not enough. Pre-season is not enough. The running game is the quickest and easiest offensive scheme for players to execute successfully. The passing game is not. We will very, very likely be a running team to start.

And drafting for the future still requires us to start looking at RB. Kamara will be 31 after this coming season. Miller can't stay healthy. Clyde misses games and practices due to PTSD. Whether your drafting for some help this season or for the future, we will likely add a RB.

This stuff isn't hard. Any and all sports are swimming with patterns and the NFL is no different. There are patterns that consistently work and patterns that don't. Just like with Dennis Allen, anyone who watched him coach the Raiders for 3 years saw patterns and knew he was very likely going to be bad. Just like with every first year coach, they tend to lean on the running game far more then passing unless you have a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady, prime Aaron Rodgers or prime Drew Brees long after shoulder surgery, which we don't.

The probability of what's going to happen is quite literally right there staring at us.
AK will be 30 to start the 2025 season

So we're forgoing BPA to throw darts at perceived needs? That's rarely if ever a good draft strategy. Also, I think the perception that RBs aren't valued is more in the "draft expert"sphere than it is in the league. Bijan was going in the 20's until draft day. Similarly with Gibbs. Now those guys are cornerstones of their teams.
Once again this BPA outlook is a myth. It's BPA at a position of NEED. No team will draft a player that has a slight better grade at a position they are ok at and pass on a player that's graded close at a position of big need

It depends on the difference in grade. if @9 you have a RB rated 9.0 and a DT rated 8.8 and a X WR rated 8.7 / We should be taking the DT. There is always a cloud of players rated close at all positions so there's not a great difference in rating

Yes but even Armstead wasn't Armstead in his rookie year :)
Armstead started out slow but got much better as the yr went on . Fuaga started out great and dipped . I think he'll be a very good LT but not sure he'll be elite

How many rookie T do you think start for any team in any given year?

It is an honor to be chosen to be rookie of the year at your position even if you are the only rookie starting at that position in the NFL...
Also how many rookie OT's were drafted or signed as a UDFA in 2024... It was more than 3!
I think some of you don't realize how hard it is just to make it to the NFL much less earn a starting spot from day 1 as a rookie!
No one said it was not hard to make in the league. The best rookie LT thing is misleading because guys that were drafted as LTs wound up playing different positions. Alt switched to RT along with a others that were LTs in college. Alt was a better T but could not be in the conversation because he didn't play LT

I like Fuaga and think he will be good LT just not sure he'll be elite

I disagree, Bush bought more to the field than his stats. You also can't overlook the marketing aspect. Reggie
bought excitement and hope to a city that desperately needed it. D'Brickashaw Ferguson nor AJ Hawk would
have brought that.

Fuaga is rated 19
Alt is rated 20
for best rookies from the 2024 draft...

It isn't misleading...

You can find an article or podcast to support just about any theory . How about we take PFF scores over a site called Yard Barker.
Joe Alt overall grade 77.6 19th out of 144 of all OTs
Fuaga -65.7 53rd out of 144 OTs

PFF sccores are a joke & everyone know that...

Why do you fight so hard for Penning & not so much for Fuaga?

I personally am ecstatic that we waited until the 14th pick instead of trading up to get one of the other LT in the draft last year
& the guy turns out to be pretty damn good...

We are now set at RT & LT for the foreseeable future.
