With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (33 Viewers)

Abdul Carter shouldn't make it out of the top 5. Shame to those 5 teams if he does. But absolutely take him if he's available.
of course. i saw hunter's name so i thought these names should be added. Will Johnson would be an easy slam dunk fit if he makes to 9. I wouldn't be against going offensive player but its hard to argue against a CB1 need and fit here.

That's the biggest question. I prefer a 4-3 defense. What we have been running doesn't really help and there are a lot of things that went wrong. The question is do we have the players that can adjust back to a 4-3 defense? Do you have a defense scheme in mind that you like?
Honestly it depends, Currently it would be easier for us to field a 4-3 from our current roster IMO, but also I could see some players like Bresee on our roster benefitting from a switch to a 3-4.

It's a lot easier to think less in 3-4 or 4-3 and more in base vs disguise. Perfect example is the Rams who are technically a 4-3 but disguise their rush and coverage very well.

Base defenses where the same 4 rush often and the same 3 linebackers often drop back into coverage is becoming obsolete. Disguises and having the personal to disguise the rush and the coverage have become prime defenses.

I know its a touchy subject. But Baun for the Eagles is a perfect example. Is he rushing? Is he spying? Is he dropping back in coverage? What's going on with him? It means your QB has to take a second to watch key personal and what they do and know what route that opens up, which means they hold the ball a second longer.

Theres just not a base defense that excels anymore in this league.

Remember the Saints don’t win or lose games because the fans want them to!

You act like the people on this board is responsible for us getting the #9 pick instead of your highly coveted #5!
The sentiment is what I'm talking about. I brought this up and got neg rep'd to death that the season was obviously over and people on here still rooting for wins. Yes, I understand we don't control the outcome. We do control the perception of the board though.

Switch to the 3-4. Draft Mike Green and Deone Jones to man the middle. This move might actually save Isaiah Foskey's career.

I didn't say you did say not to draft Will Campbell. But if Campbell is a Guard I would not take him at #9 but I would take another player who is a LT if he is the best value at #9. For example, Banks.

You clearly have no desire to have a real discussion about this so I'm done with it. Have fun overreacting.

More and more i’m starting to think that we should draft an OT, especially Campbell if he is available. Let Penning be a much improved backup.
The comment on this thread that you jumped into was clearly about drafting Campbell if he is available at 9 & benching Penning...

So if I'm overreacting, you did not read... the entire discussion that started this part of the thread!

I still hope the team trades back and picks up some extra picks, they could get Dart and Mason Taylor for the value of the ninth pick. I say use the shot gun approach and don’t target one guy.

#9 Draft position: whom is your pick if these players are available at your Pick?
Travis Hunter
Mason Graham
Mykel Williams
A. Jeanty
M. Starks
Or trade for 2nd and 3rd round picks?
Graham then Hunter

I had the same thought, Foskey is a stud up backer basically, always has been. Only thing is where do you play him? Can’t play him at the strong side olb spot because I don’t think he’ll be able to drop into coverage and you can’t play him at the weak side because more than likely that’s where granderson would be.

You run some kind of 3-4 under allowing granderson to still be the weak side rusher, but we’d need someone like James Pearce to play the strong side.

The Players that I think will go top 10 (regardless of whether or not I agree with it)
Cameron Ward
Shedeur Sanders
Travis Hunter
Abdul Carter
Mason Graham
Tetairoa McMillan
Will Johnson
Will Campbell
Kelvin Banks
Ashton Jeanty

Leaving these 10 outside the top 10:
Malaki Starks
James Pearce Jr.
Luther Burden
Tyler Warren
Nic Scourton
Jalon Walker
Josh Simmons
Mykel Williams
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant

Bottom line... We're going to find ourselves a very good player at 9!
Who do I want to draft? Abdul Carter, who do I think we will draft? Probably James Pearce

Theres only two players out of those two lists who I think will never ever live up to that level of draft position, Mykel Willaims and Shedeur Sanders. In truth, I don't think either should go 1st round at all.

Trade back a bit further in the first round, acquire some draft picks, then draft Jaxson Dart.

We have to take a chance on a mobile QB. It is the way to win in this day and age.
