World Cup 2022 - Qatar (with SR Pick'Em league) (5 Viewers)

i mean the article isn't really 'wrong' about anything (in particular the dearth of personality - Lalas is the only with with some personality and he brings about as much insight to the game as Ditka used to on the pre-game shows)
but the ostensible complaint about the coverage is about stuff that the author had no business to expect
Fox is going to complain about Qatar/FIFA the way NBC/FOX/CBS will complain about NFL/Goodell - as toothlessly as possible - might as well just say "i blame late-stage capitalism'
Fwiw, I don't really pay much attention to commentary. So it isn't an issue for me.

Yeah, idk, the coverage has been ok. I haven't had any issues with it.
caveating what i said above, if you did also listen to bbc coverage, you'd notice a significant difference
also, in the final round of group stage, SiriusFC broadcast the match that wasn't on Fox and they used the regular 'talkSPORTS' commentators whom i much prefer
Stu Holden, et al, tend to let the visuals tell the story (and some prefer that style), but on the radio you just hear seconds upon seconds of just crowd noise
talkSPORTS are more like when you listen to a Tony Romo called game - just much more in game/'what are the players thinking' insights

So I mentioned that I wasn’t watching out of protest against FIFA and their selection of Qatar as host, other than the US.

Last night I was in a restaurant picking up dinner and while I waited they had the replay of France v Poland on.

I was there for like 15 minutes and got to see Mbappe’s goal to make it 2-0.

Jeebus that was magical.

Received the ball felt no one closing and looked up; saw the defenders hesitate for 1 split second and neither immediately closed as both instead retreated a step to take away the far post. The defender closest realizes it as Mbappe picks his head up but it’s too late.

Tears the net in the upper with a knuckler that was almost a foot over the bar when it got past the keeper. Ball kept dipping and got under the bar. 2-0.

My food was done so that is all I saw of this WC outside of US.

That one goal is a prime example in the remaining gap for the US. A true finisher. It is something that has eluded us since I can remember.*

We had a great Cup and only gave up 4 goals in the WC and three were to the Netherlands. But we only scored 3 through Group and Ro16. Not nearly enough.

Being -1 for the tournament spells early exit. We need more offense; and not necessarily possession. Japan has found success without possession.

Altedore* was solid, but he could be eliminated as his carrying was subpar making it necessary for service in the box or a through ball for him to use his superior aerial abilities and speed.

there are 10 of those strikers in the world just like they're only a handful of great QBs
if one of those strikers drop from heaven, cool, but we really should develop a system where some combination of CP, Weah, Gio, BA, Weston are our attacking options
greggg sticking to his 9 idea limited our options

But there’s also the issue that this collection of players won’t play together as often as a club does. Just thinking if you applied a pre-Haaland Man City system to the USMNT, it might work really well, but they definitely don’t spend as much time together. So then having a clinical finisher / goal scorer (ie can be relied on regardless) would certainly work better in a national team setting. It’s just that we don’t have one and haven’t developed one for this generation yet.

this is true too (and while I was ok with leaving Pepe off this squad, i think he has the best chance to become our best 9 - but my fingers are crossing hard for Paxton A. as well)
BUT
at the same time, we can't put the 25th best player into the lineup just bc just because '9'

that was the Pels last year playing Devonte Graham last year - he was a liability everywhere and we just hhooooppppeeeeed he would hit the occasional 3 (luckily he's a bit better this year)

That was a cheap PK tbh. I mean, the Korean player whiffed. Brazil acts like they broke an ankle when you touch them.

dang - class finishes in 15' minutes - i was hoping it would be competitive then
alas

SK had a great shot saved by Allison just a few min ago. So if they can get 1, changes game. Maybe they get 1 before half.

Yeah that is pretty insurrmountable for S.Korea... particularly given the Brasilian defense.

I was not expecting Neymar to play. Also that is more life in attacking than I saw out of Brasil in the entire group stage. They have talent up front in spades. If they really have "woken up"... a sixth trophy is incoming. I did not expect they would honestly... maybe the were just bored.

I tried to listen to a couple of the matches on Fox Sports radio on SiriusXM. I couldn't follow it at all--again as a casual fan. I didn't know about the other station.

Yeah, I’d agree with the “get your best 11 on the field” sentiment. I’d have loved to have seen us switch to something like

Pulisic Weah Reyna
Aaronson (10)
Musah Adams
Robinson Ream CCV Dest

But alas.

And I realize that leaves McKennie out. But he’s my 60’ super sub.

that was just the TV feed - so they're relying on the audience seeing what's going on and just commenting here and there
SiriusXMFC is more like a radio broadcast where they're helping the listeners follow the action
