Would You Trade our 1st and 3rd to Insure that we Get Dorsey or Ellis? If Not What would You Do With Our First Pick?

Personally I would trade up if one falls to 7

No. I wouldn't reach for a DT with injury concerns, just because its a need position. We tried that once.

I'd stay put at ten, take the BPA, and be done with it.

I voted yes....Ellis really intrigues me.

If the question had been for Ellis only, maybe, but not for Dorsey. I'm really concerned about his injury history. Maybe it's going to get better, but so far it's a concern.

In a hypothetical world, I'd rather trade down picking up a third. In a perfect world, Ellis falling and Cason being available in the second or drafting Cromartie and Laws/Lofton being available in the second.

If both Dorsey and Ellis are taken, then another interesting option will fall to us. Maybe we won't be interested in that particular player, but others will. We may receive an interesting offer to trade down then.

I think worst case scenario, we have one of the two best corners or the best linebacker, not a bad situation at all.

On a scale of 1-10: Dorsery/Ellis would be my 10. Trading back for more picks would be an 8. Getting a CB would be a 7.5. Going LB or Balmer would be a 5 (I don't think there's as big of a drop of with LB and Balmer to DTs in the 2nd or 3rd as there is with CB). OL/Safety would be a 4. And then anything else would be a 1.

All that being said, I would hate to give up a 3rd to land Dorsey/Ellis. They're my favorites, but we've already lost a 4th and I think we NEED at least 3 good players (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

You can't mortgage your draft on Dorsey, plus only giving up a 3 may be a pipe dream depending on how high you want to move up. If we move up into the top 7, we are going to have to give up a 2 especially if one of those guys is on the board. I think some of us are getting a little too excited about Dorsey and we think that just because he has injury concerns no other team is going to take him or they will let us trade up for nothing to take him. Let's stay put and take the best defender there.

I'm concerned that Gay was more a product of a good team and it MAY be like David all over again? I know its a cardinal sin to trade up for a DT around here, but if we dont get an impact DT, then the whole D may end of suffering x 2. We updated corner and LB, but have only resigned a DT but havent added anyone there. The fact that we havent added any DT FA may be a sign that the FO thinks its a possibility of getting one of the top DT's? If we get a third round DT then that would be like having added average there, Gay average at corner and depending on Vilma's injury unknown upgrade there too? I wouldnt see where's the big change? We can also say choosing a safety, corner or linebacker in the first could also vastly help us, but we see from last year cant bank on that.

Also, what are the chances that Simoneau plays in place of Shanle next year? Many have said he is a very smart player but just isnt physically agile enough for MLB? Is that a possibility or is he just Vilma insurance?

I'd stay put. Not trading around. If all else fails, we get Rivers, who would be pretty damn good next to Vilma.

No! No! No!
RE: 2003 NFl Draft
We had 2 picks which we could have gotten Marcus Trufant and Nnamdi Asomugha and we moved up to pick Johnathan Sullivan. Need I say more? Stay put and take BPA.

I like Dorsey better, because he will play through injury and he plays with the Fire that is hard to find in a 300 lb lineman. Team leader also

As much as I'd love both of them I believe the smart money is on staying put. We already gave up a 4th this year for Vilma...we can't afford dumping more picks. Not to mention we still stand a small chance of having one of them fall to us. It's not a big chance, but it's possible. If they both fall to 5 we'll see 1 of them @ 10. I would prefer to keep our high picks and move back into the first round for a targeted player...like maybe Mayo or Lofton, or if we don't draft a CB @ 10 you can move back into the first to land a top 5 corner like Jenkins, Porter, Talib, Flowers, etc. etc.
