You got a glimpse at the Saints future core… If you were paying attention (1 Viewer)

Chase, for all of the hype he has garnered, since he came out of college, severely underperforms. He is not worth what we are paying him and we are now seeing exactly what Washington and SF saw in him
If Young was producing like his college hype, his market would be through the roof in the range of a top 10 FA QB salary. The DE market is extremely expensive. Young’s current salary is about half of the top DEs’ salary. This is the perfect time to bring him back on a 2-3 year deal before he has a crazy season that prices him out of the Saints range. The issue is Chase Young is viewed through astronomical pre-NFL hype lenses, instead of by talent and consistent production for his position in the NFL as a recently-acquired Saint in year 5.

He’s not the #1 draft prospect anymore in year 5. He’s not being relied on to anchor the line as the top lineman. He’s one of the top pressure rushers in the league and can sack the QB like a top 10-15 pass rusher. He’s producing exactly like he’s being paid. His run defense is average to shaky which is expected from the 2nd DE but he’s made TFLs against the run. 13M-16M AAV is fringe tier-2 DE range which is the actual production Young is providing, including through recent games. Young is our DE2 who has the production and salary of our DE1, Granderson, while he carries potential DE1 upside.

We’re talking about Young like he’s the Saints’ last two drafted DEs who haven’t produced at all. The dropoff between Young and Foskey-Turner is very severe. Retain productive young talent accordingly while they’re in the building. It hasn’t been fun for the Saints trying to replace Hendrickson in recent drafts.

Most NFL teams are also having trouble finding long term star pass rushers in the draft. The 2024 rookie rushers have less than 5 sacks through 14 games. The most impactful ‘24 rushers have been later 1st rounders, Verse and Chop Rob, while the top two, Latu and D. Turner, have been largely quiet. The top two from the ‘23 draft are also invisible through almost 2 seasons.

Its not easy acquiring a definite productive 2nd DE, let alone one from the top of the draft. It’ll be dreadful to go into 2025 with likely-retiring 36 year old Cam Jordan as the best option to start at DE2. Young has to be brought back to shore up DE2. That makes it easier to allocate resources towards adding DT talent next to Bresee.

That’s a pretty talent deprived future. Shows how bad this team is at drafting and developing.
That shows how well the Saints have drafted and scouted in the last 3 drafts and post-drafts, contrary to the bad at drafting narrative. OP isn’t saying they’re All-Pros. But that they’re very productive starters in a short time and have high potential to build around.

Bresee is a 2023 late 1st round DT with 7.5 sacks in 14 games in season 2, 12 sacks in 31 games overall.

Taylor is a 2022 2nd rounder who had an outstanding rookie year as a shutdown boundary and a decent 2nd year as a Slot CB on the fly. He led the team in sacks from the slot to open year 3, as he’s been unconventionally asked to go back and forth between slot and boundary in a shaky year 3. A full offseason committed back to boundary will benefit him.

Olave is a 2022 1st rounder who produced two 1k yard seasons in his 1st two seasons before his 4th concussion cut year 3 short.

Granderson is a UDFA who has earned his way up to the Saints’ DE1 above 4 highly drafted Saints DEs. He’s a complete DE against the run and rushing the passer. He’s consistently graded as one of the best pass rushers in the league week to week.

Shaheed is a UDFA who’s one of the most explosive deep threats in the league and earned his way to WR2. Regardless if he’s not a true WR2, the point is that he stepped up and emerged into a legitimate starting WR on talent and production after the Saints acquired him in undrafted FA.

Miller is a 2023 3rd rounder showing that he’s talented enough to be a featured back if he stays healthy. Everyone wrote him off as a wasted pick. Now the same people are saying the coaches are giving Kamara too many touches that should be going to Miller.

Rattler’s ceiling is still to be determined. But he’s shown he can put points on the board and keep the team in games as a late round rookie QB.

Before he has a crazy season? When will that happen??? You act like you know that will happen for sure, yet this dude is on his 3rd team. Can sack the QB like a 10-15 rusher, yet he doesn’t do it. I rather take my chances in the draft and cut bait when needed, vs paying this dude to pull the wool over the eyes of a Gambini

Taylor is still riding the high off ONE GAME from his rookie year.

Unfortunately nothing about Taylor is "shutdown". By all metrics he has been absolutely god awful this year.

A TJ Watt-Myles Garrett season that outbids the Saints from even coming to the table in the 28M-30M range. Young is paid the same as Granderson with the same performance. He’s paid like a 25 year old productive 2nd DE with potential to be the top DL. It makes sense to re-sign Young than end up back in the circumstances of drafting more DEs similar to Foskey and Turner and continuously looking for 1st round DEs every draft. They shouldn’t overcomplicate keeping the team’s best players.

Bresee , Granderson , Taylor and Young are the future of the New Orleans defense. While MVS , Miller , Shaheed , Rattler are the future of the offense in New Orleans. I so badly want to add Olave to that list , only time will tell. Hopefully this is just a rough patch , and not the rest of his career.

But the ingredients are in the pot.

I feel resigning Chase Young is in order.

Spencer should finish as the 1 and battle Carr for 1 next season. He’ll lose because the books say he has to , but that will be valuable time as the heir apparent while we fulfill our obligations to Carr. Carr like the last 2 seasons won’t finish the year healthy , at some point Rattler will takeover and become the guy for us.

Keep Klint because this offense can bite , and I don’t want another philosophy ruining Rattler as he’s starting to get the gist of the game.

I don’t know if Rizzi is the guy to keep at HC. But I do not want another offense coming in starting from scratch. The offense suits AK and Kendre very well.

We draft a stud or two on the Offensive line and our young QB hits a groove , and we are the next Washington Commanders. It’s there.
I love your enthusiasm brother. Let’s ride.

Taylor led the Saints secondary in least passer rating allowed and least yards allowed as a full time rookie boundary CB. His entire rookie year was phenomenal. It wasn’t just the one game against Adams. Thats probably the one game that his critics paid attention to due to who he was covering and act like he did nothing else.

I don’t disagree that he’s having a bad 3rd year. I believe it’s due to being thrown all over the place back and forth between assignments on the outside and nickel. A full camp in boundary reps should help him perform similar to his first year.

Rattler, Miller, Olave, Shaheed, Penning and Fuaga on offense, sure, defense I'm not so sure.

I normally don’t say anything about grammar, but good lord! Could you please just do proper spacing with your commas?

There is never a space before the comma and always a space after (I shouldn’t say always bc when there are quotes there won’t be a space after the comma before the ending quotation mark, but we’ll keep it simple for now).

See below:

Incorrect - patch , and not
Correct - patch, and not

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Out of all the names you mentioned, I view about three as the future core.

Kendre
Breese
Shaheed

I'm not truly sold on Klint. We can bring Young back, but it needs to be another prove-it deal.

Lol, you won’t have to worry about Chase having a Watt/Garrett type season🤣🤣🤣. Those dudes have something in them that Chase does NOT have.

I’d add Kool Aid to the mix….think he’s part of the future and will be a good one.
