You got a glimpse at the Saints future core… If you were paying attention (2 Viewers)

Bresee , Granderson , Taylor and Young are the future of the New Orleans defense. While MVS , Miller , Shaheed , Rattler are the future of the offense in New Orleans. I so badly want to add Olave to that list , only time will tell. Hopefully this is just a rough patch , and not the rest of his career.

But the ingredients are in the pot.

I feel resigning Chase Young is in order.

Spencer should finish as the 1 and battle Carr for 1 next season. He’ll lose because the books say he has to , but that will be valuable time as the heir apparent while we fulfill our obligations to Carr. Carr like the last 2 seasons won’t finish the year healthy , at some point Rattler will takeover and become the guy for us.

Keep Klint because this offense can bite , and I don’t want another philosophy ruining Rattler as he’s starting to get the gist of the game.

I don’t know if Rizzi is the guy to keep at HC. But I do not want another offense coming in starting from scratch. The offense suits AK and Kendre very well.

We draft a stud or two on the Offensive line and our young QB hits a groove , and we are the next Washington Commanders. It’s there.
We need to get Taylor out of that outside corner position he isn't made for it. Move him back to slot where he was, and he can fill in when needed. He is an inconsistent tackler and get burnt too often. Yes, he does make plays, but he also gives them up as there are way too many times if would just tackle them it would stop the opponent from gaining an extra 5 to ten yards.

I think we need another receiver to go with those guys that's not a group that will lead you to a championship. Jury is still out on Rattler there isn't enough time behind center as a starter to say he is the future until he puts a full season in as the starter. This team has been so bad anyone that has made plays stood out like a sore thumb.

Our leading rusher and receiver is our running back Alvin Kamara and that is never good when your running back is leading in receiving. I would like to keep MVS as a second or third option.

If Rattler is your future you have to draft a bigger WR. He does well w/ go up and get it guys like Lagette that have a large catch radius and strong hands. It helps when his passes are behind or a little off.

Don’t think that’s Olave, so would be def looking to add a big WR or TE

Taylor doesn’t need to be in Adebo’s spot on the wide side of field. His chance of direction is slow and so asking him to cover more grass on that side of the field hurts him.

Put him on the short side, like he was for a good part of his rookie season and he’s a lot more sticky because the sideline is his best friend.

We need to either resign Adebo or another veteran but I hate him as the LCB.

I prefer Taylor in the Slot. I think he could probably adjust back to being an outside corner but I don't think he will ever be great and he was heading for being great in the Slot. It just seems to be a perfect fit for his talents.

And I don’t like him in the slot because when he misses tackles from that position it breaks the D. You noticed how the missed tackle stopped and coincided w/ him playing on outside and Pete Werner coming back?

I just think he’s better going against Bigger WR’s at the X like Marshon where he can press and get physical, vs working against Z’s on the opposite side who have a free release and can take advantage of his slower COD

Most of his best plays were on the side of the field where Shon played. When Shon came back and Adebo got hurt he got exposed a little bit more on the opposite side.

More ground to cover

After watching T Sweat stiff arm someone, I wish we were able to select him last year. Would have changed the shape of our defense.

Young is the most talented DE and best pass rusher on the team. He consistently produces the most pressures most weeks. He leads the team in TFLs. He’s now T-2nd in sacks (5.5) behind Bresee (7.5).
He has 3.5 sacks in the last 5 games. I think Young will finish the season as the Saints’ sack leader.
Good DEs won’t be cheap. We can’t sign all good players at vet minimum. Young isn’t Foskey or Turner. Young will definitely get a similar salary AAV as Granderson in the 13M-15M per year range. He signed a 1 year-13M for 2024. He’s unlikely to go cheaper than that # in the next deal. Thats a relatively cheap # for a productive starting DE.

Young is producing the same stats as Granderson while 3 years younger than Granderson. He’s a premier young talent to build around for years to come.

I think all of this is true and Young is worth 13M. I also think he is a rotational DE. He had 4 games with blanks on the stat sheet. We are 0-4 when Cam Jordan get 40% or less snaps. Young seems to play best on obvious pass situations. He is not solid vs the run on a team giving up 4.9 ypc. PFF scores him 174/202 EDs vs the run. Allen had him playing 7T so he could 1 gap vs the run and was also trying to keep him from pass rushing too wide and deep like he did in Wash and SF. The other MO on Young is if he doesn't immediately win a pass rep he just gives up or waits for a play to be over.

Granderson had 8.5 sacks at RDE last year. We bounced him to LDE this year since he is the better run DE. I think giving RDE to Young instead of focusing on Granderson's development is a mistake. Even with the change Granderson has 50 tkl to Young's 25 with the same sack total.

I'd sign Chase for 13M. But, I want a 1st down run stuffer pushing him for playing time and the ability to walk away when/if he plays lazy and undisciplined.

Consistently productive, talented DEs are very hard to find in the draft or FA. Young is a must re-sign.
Or else, Foskey will be the 2nd DE when Cam Jordan retires.
Chase, for all of the hype he has garnered, since he came out of college, severely underperforms. He is not worth what we are paying him and we are now seeing exactly what Washington and SF saw in him

Young for $13 million? Pass it to the left please

One thing a good front office isn’t doing is giving Young a big money multi year deal but we don’t have a good front office so there’s that.

We do have some young talent that has been hidden behind the vets. Not nearly enough though. Hopefully we know a little something about Adebo, Olave, Shaheed and Taysom before the draft. They could all be back and they could all be done, and nobody knows right now. If they are all done, we trade for picks.
