The town where i lived in Florida as a kid is actually the home of Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey circus , seriously.. they even have a Ringling College there, and a ‘clown school’.. the high school where i went for summer school one year, whose mascot was the ‘Sailors’, had what they called the ‘Sailor Circus’, with trapeze artists and everything, like most high schools have a football team…. Very Florida, the whole thing

So my first reaction is, why did she stay with him? But as Marsha has repeatedly said on this thread, the important thing is how to start teaching women when they’re girls to equip them to leave these scumbags early. I have no clue as to the answer.

I have two sisters just one year apart from one another. One stayed with her abuser for a long time after the abuse started, then married him, then repeatedly returned to him to the severe detriment of her children. I’m convinced that the only reason she’s alive today is because the idiot took the seemingly odd approach of killing himself before killing her. My other sister would not have taken a man disrespecting her verbally much less beating the living hell out of her. She likely would have taken the kizzy approach before she left if any man had tried it.

I watched them both being raised and have some wild theories about why, but I really don’t have any confident explanation for why one sister took it, and the other wouldn’t have even considered the possibility of taking it.

The most famous alum of the high school i mentioned in my post above, with the ‘Sailor Circus’, was one Paul Rubens…. aka Pee Wee Herman…. I was a senior in high school when he had his infamous altercation at an adult movie theater (though by then I’d moved back to the NOLA area).. my best friend was working at the Taco Bell next door to the theater when it happened, it was big news back then.
