N/S Cutler trade to Bears (mega merge)

what a great thing to wake up to

finding out that Jay Cutler got traded to one of the Saints most hated rivals

just great :jpshakehead:

Cutler is no elite QB yet...and I don't believe he ever will be, not with the Bears O.

You guys are selling the Bears offense short... Their biggest short-coming has been their QB, and now they got a really good one.

They have a playmaker in Hester, a very good all-around RB in Forte, and good young WR in Earl Bennett, and a very solid pass-catching TE in Greg Olsen. They've got a very solid interior O-line, a young OT in Chris Williams...

All they need is a bigger type possession WR and their offense could be VERY good with Cutler back there.

Wow you really don't like Cutler... Who's he gonna throw to? Hester maybe? I mean he is miles better then Orton in not only arm strength but also accuracy. I hate the bears, this makes them a very very dangerous team.

They gave up a crummy qb(Orton), yes he is a bad qb, he was only starting caliber on da bears, dude was not a good qb. And they gave up one semi late first rounder this year and another probably later first round next year considering they will most likely be right in the race for their division with this acquisition. I wouldn't even consider them a contender before this pick up, now i'm watching them a little closer.

Bears won big time in this trade.
So Hester is this "bigtime proven receiver" now? C'mon, you can't be serious about that. One more question, how many receiving yards did Hester have last year. I guess its was his QB. Right?

Cutler too, has a gunslinger mentality...ala Brett Favre, who I love, but he (Cutler) is also good for 18 or more picks, without putting up the amount of TD's as REALLY GOOD QB's(Brees, Manning, Rivers, default Brady)

How long before Brandon Marshall demands a trade now? He goes from having Cutler to having Orton. That must suck.

If you're the Broncos, this is a tough pill to swallow. However, given the atrocious nature of that defense, it was pretty much a necessary one. The only way you're rebuilding that team is with an injection of talent across the board. What's the best way to do that? Stockpile draft picks.

The Broncos will probably be terrible for a few years now, which is never fun, but this move might help them in the long run if they use their picks wisely.

Cutler/Hester/Olsen/Forte

Cutler will open up our run game. I cannot tell you how many times last year Hester TOASTED CB's and Orton missed him.

As for the Bears, Lovie Smith is moving his chips to the center of the table. If he's going down, he's going to do so with a QB that deserves to be starting in the NFL. I think the move, on the surface, makes sense for both franchises given the respective circumstances of both teams.

When Aaron Brooks throws for 4500 yards and 25 TD's you let me know.

Horrible mechanics? Who told you that? Cutler has never had bad mechanics.
aaron brooks never had brandon marshall and eddie royal to throw to....just sayin

Are you seriously trying to say that Cutler is why they didn't win? Their defense was worse then ours. Does that mean Brees isn't good? Silly logic.

It's not and a 3rd. They got a 3rd in return with Cutler.

Did anyone really think a franchise QB of Cutlers age was getting moved for anything less then 2 1sts?

IMO some fans belive that a good player does not need help to be sucessful I think they belive a good QB does not need a good offensive line to protect him or good recievers and a good RB does not need a good line to block or open up running lanes because he can just run over anybody who tries to tackle him.

IMHO they fail to realize this is a team game.

Hester was better as a punt and kickoff returner. He gave the Bears more TD's than he has a receiver so far. I agree with you, the Bears need to get a WR and will likely do so with their second round pick in the draft if they are smart. Their OL is solid now, with getting Orlando Pace. The only thing that will hurt the Bears this year is that the defense is getting old and didn't produce last year consistently.

What actually makes me upset about all of this is that I thought the Bears were our best trading partner on Draft day, because of their need of a LT.. but now they fixed all that and don't have a pick anyway. Denver won't likely be trading up with their second first round pick. I'm starting to think we may not have as good of a trading partner now, unless someone from 21+ wants to make a bigger jump. I was hoping to only slide down to 17-20....

this makes it a little bit harder to beat them now. but i think we still got em'.:9:

All that is true. However, you're likely to be losing the "underthrow to Hester drawing the pass interference" that you benefited from last year. That doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but it was definitely there. We lost to you as a result of it at the very least. I'm sure you'll have a lot of long catch-and-runs now, though. And that's pretty exciting for any fan. It's all dependent on the offensive line. If Cutler has any kind of time, he'll be - at worst - above average in Chicago. I don't think he's as good as we were led to believe last year in Denver, and I think Chicago paid a slightly hefty price, but bottom line is it was a deal that needed to be done so I can't blame them at all.
