Nnamdi Asomugha 'hit it off' during weekend visit, GM Mickey Loomis said Monday morning (1 Viewer)

I do know what positions they play.... my argument is we need to get the best 11 players on the field on defense and ed reed and nnamdi would be in that number. if we need to make cuts to insure their availability.... then greer and harper are the likeliest candidates for release. address the all powerful SS dilemma in the draft or promote from in house.

at least you know that all players in the secondary have to "back pedal"...LOL...sorry, was too easy.

again, I know REED is a FS and I know HARPER is a SS

well, you kinda didn't a few posts ago...just saying. you can't get that mad at others on the forum when sort of set yourself up with some of your statements. they can be unforgiving and sharks in the water when there is blood. no reason to take yourself out of posting though. it is about the sharing of opinions, discussions and hopefully people educating themselves more on the game, the team and other aspects of the Saints.

Rob Ryan ate a rack of ribs and delighted in having a GD snack with one of his past favorites. Sounds good to me.

Nnamdi was used in the wrong scheme in Philly.

Biggest excuse I constantly see. Philly was not a pure zone team. They played zone and man, he sucked in both. He was also absolutely terrible tackling and in run support.

If the Rob Ryan thinks there is something there he can work with, hey who am I to argue with him but I just dont see it.

I kinda did.... I was "typing out loud" the whole basis of the argument was if we intend to be better than the worst defense in league history.....we need to improve our talent. ed reed and nnamdi do that immediately.

I have had season tickets for over 15 years and I find the lack of common decency is staggering on this board. this isn't the political board, this is the main saints super forum. it is sad that I cant discuss free agency during free agency without "sharks" or whatever attacking. the irony will be if they sign reed and nnamdi and cut harper and greer.

ill just become a lurker until the season starts. enjoy the "blood in the water"

You seem to be flying off the handle because people disagree with you. So, I ask you, who is bringing down the level of discourse in this discussion? I'm not sure why people think that others should never disagree with what they say and why people seem it's some sort of personal attack when they do.

There were articles and statistics that showed he was significantly better in press m2m coverage in Philly vs when he was in zone. If he isn't going to break the bank, I say why not? Obviously RR thinks he has something left.

Nope. Just soft. Seen enough of his play live.

Very soft, and thats my biggest issue with him. Not a physical guy at all. He has this reputation as this tough physical press corner, but even in his ladder years in Oakland he rarely played press, he would line up in press then bail out right before the snap. Played with excellent mechanics but he usually lines up on the same side of the field, all the time, and it was the side that usually saw the #2 or #3 WR's.

I just wont be excited about this signing at all. I hate to be the debbie downer type because I am usually a glass half full poster, but Im just not on board with it.

Now Keenan Lewis? I loved that signing.

Don't you underestimate the Rob Ryan! :mwink:

Of course he was a little better in man than he was in zone because he was absolutely horrid in zone, and just plane old bad in man coverage.

If we sign him on a cheap that doesnt give us big long term cap ramifications then I guess it's cool. Rob Ryan is smarter than me, but coaches makes mistakes also, and all coaches stubbornly tend to think they can "fix" a player.

I suspect Asomungha hit free agency thinking he could break the bank again and the realities of being a soon to be 32 year-old CB who had two bad years in the NFL have hit him. He's not going to get the deal he wanted from anyone, but he is visiting a few teams to try to find the best deal and fit that he can find. I would bet that Loomis made a contract offer or at least told him the range of money they would be willing to give him. And, now, as Loomis said, we wait for him to decide which team he wants to play for. Loomis is not going to up the offer so Asomungha is going to have to decide which team is the best fit for him and weigh that against the money offered.

As far as if he is an upgrade for us, of course he is. Even if he is never what he was in Oakland, he is a veteran who is experienced in Ryan's system. He's depth at worse and he may show that he has something left in the tank and end up starting or at worst being one of the three top CBs. (My guess would be that Lewis and Asomumgha take the outside receivers with Greer in the slot when we are in nickle.) Asomungha will compete with Robinson for the third spot and competition can only make Robinson better.

Well, if we sign him it's going to be based on the recommendation of Rob Ryan who coached him in Oakland and who I'm sure saw film of him in Philly since Dallas played them twice a year. You have to trust that your defensive coordinator knows who fits into his scheme.

He was cut. He didn't "hit" free agency like Mike Wallace. He had a contract, but the team decided to move on from him, so they terminated it.

I would hope his expectations would be a little lower since a team decided they would rather pay him $4,000,000 to not play for them than keep him on the roster.
