Drag Queen Story Hour... (2 Viewers)

Again Guido... I don't think anyone is going to catch the gay...

But when you did those things you were an adult, made your own decisions. Drove yourself to you Dance recitals and shows... You applied your own makeup. All these things you did because it was your choice... Not because your parents drove you to these things when you were little.

These kids haven't decided if they like Barney Bear or Spongebob better... They definately haven't decided what their secual preferences are going to be yet....
Gnight
But you still haven’t articulated what you think the dangers are

Yes I did... I do see where it was reported as false... But I have to say this and I quote the Drag Queen herself... She Said: "Thanks again to everybody who made this opportunity a reality and make such a successful LGBT event." including - "celebrating LGBTQ history month"

It was an LGBT, - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, transvestite... Event...

So.. You want to tell me again how this does not have any sexual orientations with this?

Yup... Look at these kids... They sure need to know what it's like being a Drag Queen in the LGBT community...

Really Joe?
Are we back to being afraid that kids are going to catch the gay?
I have worn makeup, dressed in drag, I wrestled in HS, danced professionally all over the world
I’ve danced in very little and danced with men also without much on
If anyone was going to catch the gay it would be me

Now, you don’t often go to that sort of hyperbole so I have to wonder if you’ve maybe lost the reason this upsets you so much
Without the bombast can you explain what you think the danger is?

You might be showing symptoms.

Joe, you did just imply that children decide what their sexual orientation is going to be, though. There’s no credible evidence that’s true.

And I couldn’t disagree more with you that girls “should” be steered toward playing with babydolls and wearing pink. If a young girl’s mom or dad is into cars, it’s natural for any child to be interested in learning about whatever interests their parents may have.

No... Not really.. I still have a post on the No.. Little girls need to be shown little girl things like dolls and dollhouses and things first.. Not rebuilding engines... BUT.. As time goes by if she starts developing an interest in rebuilding engines then she should be shown how if she wants..

Haha. My wife would go off on you for that line of thinking. I’m completely certain the only doll she ever owned was the strawberry shortcake one her grandma made for her, but when she is in the mood to do it does some of the best finishing bodywork I’ve ever seen. She was raised in a garage, knows more about old school hot rods and 1930s coupes than most guys at hot rod shoes. She’s merciless about bodywork on show cars and can spot it immediately because that’s where and how she was raised.

Maybe that’s why she doesn’t cook and is pretty bad at housewifely duties.

Of course then there is my son who went through his phase of wanting to play with dolls when he was younger. Had a few of them and played with them. Big deal. He is Now a completely conservative young guy who fits right into the Republican Party.

Yeah pretty much. I think that’s why I loved Marissa Tomei in that role so much. Reminded me a lot of my wife without the New York attitude

Morning guys and gals...

Lets not go off on a tangent with the dolls and pink thing... You know what I meant... That Girls should be taught to be girls and boys should be taught to be boys...

and what happens if they aren't taught their gender appropriate play/roles
that's what's still missing from this discussion

BAM - Thanks Guido... in your search for an answer I found this...

From their own website... Drag Queen Story Hour Mission Statement

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.

Lets look at those last few words again... - unabashedly queer role models.

As I stated in the beginning of this thread... It is so unfortunate that in this day and age people use Queer Drag Queens as role models for their kids. The Reason that they ARE role models is because they are Gay.... No other reason... Their website even states this... That's some forked up sheet...

Forget trying to use a Astronaut, scientist, Cop, Fireman, Soldier, Sailor or even a Teacher as a role Model... No.. Let's use a Drag Queen...

I have to shake my head at our Country's mentality today... I hope that at least somebody is at least doing a background check on these DQ's. But what do I know... I am just a Judgemental Hillbilly

It is more about understanding, acceptance, showing it is okay to be different. Do you have any problems with gays? There is nothing negative about this as Guido has pointed out.

Mt summed it up for my take pretty well. And my wife seems to be similar to goatman’s lol.

Also, I don’t think sexual orientation is a choice. For me, that’s the easiest topic in this thread. We are who we are in that regard, imo. I didn’t make a choice to be attracted to girls, it just happened naturally. I think the same happens to those who like guys, trees, rabbits, etc.

Couple of my closest friends were gay. High school years. I would constantly defend them, including physically when need be. And I was the athlete, big guy, popular etc. I would not allow my friends to be picked on for being ‘different’.

My wife has actually chastised me recently for how I continue to protect in my management style. (Workplace) She says I need to quit sticking my neck out for everyone (the weak and meekly) and let other grown people fight their own battles. It’s tough for me as I’m not wired that way. Even though I do see some of her points.

I think it may be a direct result of the physical and mental abuse I received as a kid. That’s what makes it hard for me to watch any type of abuse. I don’t like bullies.
