Latest AP, LSU 4, UT 12.

That seems about right. UT should be back in the top 10 before long, I think.

Yeah. I think that's fair. Before the game I told the LSU guys I was with that I think the Texas hype train is a year too early. We are definitely on the come up and have the right combination of program, coaches, and foundation players to where Texas Football is "back". But we're still a year away from having the right pieces in place to contend for the playoffs. You could see, despite the fact that we played incredibly tough and with pride and some nasty, that LSU is on just a slightly higher level of athleticism and experience. We should be there next year and with the classes Herman is bringing in, on an ongoing basis. Tough loss, but even in the loss we learned that Texas is here to stay. To even be in that game with a team as talented and good as LSU, with the number of young guys we had on the field, with a quarterback as our backup RB, etc., is a great sign for the future.

It was as much of a victory as a loss can be. Still a loss, but the late stage Mack Brown and any stage Charlie Strong terribleness is in the rearview and quickly fading into the background. Thank goodness.

I hope you guys win it all. Unless of course we somehow make our way to the playoffs (doubtful, but you never know). At least now we can all be friends again and agree that the Texans need to get got tomorrow.

I actually think the talent is there, at the very least, in the trenches. The DL gave LSU's OL fits for a lot of the game, although they got tired in the 2nd half, and the Texas OL held up really well. Texas has solid QB who will win a lot of games.

Shore up the running backs group and I think the Big 12 will be there for the Horns. OU won't be an easy out though. Hurts is playing some good ball so far. But, idk how much is him and OU or how much is it the crappy competition so far.

Looking like it's gonna be a fun season of CFB.

And heck yeah let's get the real season started! Who dat!

If Ehlinger stays for his final season, it's going to be a war in BR next year. LSU loses Lawrence, Fehoko, Divinity, Delpit, Vincent and Fulton to the NFL on defense. On offense they lose Burrow, Cushenberry which are the two most important pieces. Meanwhile, Brennan hasn't exactly inspired confidence outside of his very live arm.

Texas loses their OC and starting 3 WR with plenty of talent behind them. Defensively, they probably lose Sterns and will likely return anyone else that matters it looks like.

I figured LSU would win, but the shoot out surprised me. I did not see Texas lighting up LSUs defense like they did.

I also did not foresee LSU would be this far along with their offense in just their second game.. I knew they would be better. And I am a big Joe Burrow fan. His stats from last year were so misleading. Anyone who watched him develop over the last half of last season knows what a gamer Burrow is.

It was a coming out party for LSUs crazy good stable of receivers. They have a lot of ridiculous receiver talent on the bench too that never saw the field.

Texas has been recruiting well the last few years and it showed. My friend who runs the Texas 247 site was pretty high on Texas despite the loss. He wrote that Texas will be favored next year in tiger stadium. I don’t see that, LSU is almost never a home underdog (except when playing Bama).

But I do think the teams will be more evenly matched. If Ehrlinger stays, that would give Texas a big edge. He should, Ehrlinger strikes me as a player that will be way more successful as a college qb than a pro qb. Texas could be really good if he stays.

Burrow will be hard to replace, but Brennan might be ok. He doesn’t seem to have the “it” factor Burrow does, but he does have more of an NFL arm.

LSU is going to be a hard team to beat this year with that offense. The defense will play better I think, the only other team they face with as much talent Texas has at qb and receivers will be Bama.

I don’t know why LSU and Texas were jawing about who is dbu. The receivers for both teams should be claiming wru, the defensive backs for both teams got roasted.

Local radio and tv analysis talking about the game with some good insight.

Lsu tackling needs to improve. The same could be said for Texas though. It might be the result of softer practices. The issue seems to be common elsewhere.

Texas OL is not their strength so it was surprising that we didn’t get more pressure on Ehlinger. It’s possible that we only wanted to contain Ehlinger though.

A rematch is not out of the question as Texas is expected to be in the mix at the end. Oklahoma will be their only major hurdle going forward. LSU is not expected to lose any games,
except, of course bama, but even that game has high hopes on the local scene. I think running the table is an awefully tall order so expectations should be contained.

One tidbit I find interesting is the relationship between Coach O and Herman. They are not friendly. Not because of the coaching hunt in 2016 but because Herman tried to open a satellite camp here in Louisiana which did not sit well with O. He really really wanted to beat him on his home field. Reportedly, O is as happy or happier than ever after this win.

Stingley was lights out - Fulton was on his game until he turned his ankle. When we played zone, we got roasted. The few times they got us in man coverage, it was 3rd stringers due to injury/cramps.

To echo Brown, I think we played zone primarily to keep Ehrlinger from 100yds+ on the ground. In man, once the dbs turn to run w/ WR, thats an easy 10-15 yards for him. But we gave up passing yards to accomplish that. I think Aranda was fine with that.

As for UT being favored, maybe so depending on QB situation for LSU. But we will also have a year older defense, fully prepared for UT. I also think this win, in Austin, was HUGE for LSU recruiting in Texas.

All in all, it was a great game. We won because Burrow is just on another level at the moment. He just needs to sustain this into the 2nd week ove November ;)

on a side, sorry to hear about Foles. Kid gets his shot, falls victim to dumb injury.

It was a great win fro LSU in a truly exciting college football game. I am more excited than before about LSU's chances to get to the playoffs this year. I see this offense getting even better when they get Emery folded in some how.

But I hope Aranda was not fine with much anything on his side of the ball. I would think if Ehrlinger running was the concern, even more reason to play man. Bring a safety up and spy him.

I agree Stingley played well. Overall we had very little pass rush and some very sloppy tackling. Fulton and our safeties struggled a bit in coverage, I thought.

I do think the defense will play better going forward. My worry for the defense when we play good quarterbacks is the inability to get pressure with a four man rush.

It was a great win for recruiting in Texas, and everywhere else for that matter. Its amazing LSU has been able to recruit quality wide receivers in the past. Having three wide outs with 100 yard plus games is big. LSU has four verbal commits this year from top wide outs and I keep waiting to lose one. Maybe not now.

Thanks for the thoughts about Nick. I was with his mom and dad Friday night and they were so excited about him in Jacksonville. Oh well.

One thing re: the Texas OLine - a bunch of you guys seem to have the notion that Texas' line is not a strength. Not sure if that made its way around LSU boards or whatever, but that's definitely not true. The is the best and most talented OLine we've had in 10 years. It will probably be the 2nd or 3rd best offensive line you see all year (I have no idea how good Georgia's is but I'll assume Bama has like 8 NFL guys). So I wouldn't read too much into the fact that the Texas OL did a pretty solid job against your front 7 athletes

I think one of the difficult things for us fans to get used to about transitioning to this more open/up tempo style offense we're playing now, is that LSU's defense won't be as dominant score or stat wise as it has been in the past. We're going to be giving up more points and plays this year than in the past. With the up-tempo, quick strike playing style we're seeing now, it's only logical that our defense is going be playing more time with less breaks in between series. Other teams are also going to feel the pressure to play more open and take shots down field to keep up scoring wise. So that's going to put a lot more pressure on our defense and expose vulnerabilities.

There is always a trade off. Still, I don't think anybody would disagree that this style of offense is much better for us and will help us accomplish a lot more long term. There is definitely a lot of improvement to be made and I think we will be better on defense, but I don't think it's the last time we see a game like this one this year.
