Coach Pete Insights on Saints after Falcon Horror Show! (1 Viewer)

Agreed.

That's why I haven't participated in the "we need a #2 WR ASAP"...……."we're not as good as we thought"...……."time to lower expectations" blah blah blah nonsense.

Show me an above-average or great Payton-era Saints team and I can show you a flat / mediocre game:

2006 - Redskins (which isn't even counting some of those AFC North games earlier in the year)

2009 - Cowboys and Bucs, back to back.

2010 - Cardinals...Browns

2011 - Bucs...Rams

2013 - Jets...Rams

2017 - 0-2 start / Falcons on TNF

2018 - Dallas

I've had days where I stubbed my toe getting out of bed. Got coffee grounds in my coffee. Dropped an egg on the floor making breakfast. Put my shirt on backwards on the first try. Spilled coffee on my lap, first sip. etc... Sometimes those days got better, sometimes, they just kept snowballing. I don't think it was anything I did or could do... it was just one of those damn days.

Collectively, the Saints as a team had one of those days together this past Sunday.

That is all.

I have a feeling that I didn't clearly state what he was saying about putting Brees in. He was just brainstorming and said the Saints would have had a better chance to win if the subbed Bridge for Teddy in the beginning of the 4th quarter. He said there was no way Coach Payton would do it, he just thought in retro, like Monday Morning QB, we would have had a better chance to win. And in no way is he saying Teddy is in Brees' class. He did say that if Brees had a couple more bad games that Coach Sean may have to start Teddy to get the team fired up again

And in no way is he saying Teddy is in Brees' class.
That's true... because it looks like he's saying Bridgewater is better than Drew. At least that's what starter implies, unless he's predicting Brees is retiring after this season.
4) I was wrong about Bridgewater. He is better than I thought and he aces the intangible leadership quality. I believe he will be the starting QB for the Saints next year

I get what he's saying with the pull Brees thing but I feel like that is a very "hindsight" comment. How many times have we seen this team play flat for 2 or 3 quarters just to have Brees light it up and pull out a win. I just didn't happen this time. They stayed flat the whole game and actually got worse in the 4th. If you know that would happen maybe it would have been better to pull him. Not that it would ever happen realisticly.

I pretty much agree with all his thoughts this time though.

I know what you said but you should know by now that any post Brees discussion, suggestion of a decline, or actually admitting his age can lead to a massive riot on this board.

3. A healthy Brees will not get pulled in favor of Bridgewater. There is a 0.00% chance of that happening. Just look at what he did in his first game back. Teddy has never looked that good in his career.

4. I feel confident Brees will be back next year. Obviously could be wrong because there is no way to know for sure. But I will be shocked if he retires. The team will still be in a position to be the best in the NFL.
Coach Pete just **** the bed if he even entertains the idea that Brees was at fault enough Sunday to possibly be pulled for Bridgewater. Brees is excellent at feeling pressure and extending plays, so him taking so many sacks is an indication that the O-line was playing poorly and that the coverage was good. Bridgewater, who I am not knocking at all, was somewhat bad at detecting and escaping pressure in the pocket. Not always, but being fair, Brees was/is head and shoulders better than Bridgewater in this area. Bridgewater would not have fared any better than Brees. Honestly, I am shocked that someone as knowledgeable as Coach Pete would draw such poorly constructed conclusions.

IMHO, of course.
I'm just going to wait until the end of the season to make a other comment about Brees... I see on this board that if U make any comments about moving on from Brees U have committed a sin... And if the team don't get the Superbowl other bad call by the Refs.... I'll be waiting to say I told U so

You do that.

... so, if the backup QB needs to come in to fire up the team again, does that mean Drew already lost the team?

At the end of the 3rd quarter, the game was 13-9. Why would you sub the starting QB at 13-9? If the implication is that TB can run, why not put in the better runner instead? Is the implication TB is the better passer?

Total BS. Payton nor Ms Benson would entertain playing Teddy this year over Drew absent a total collapse by Brees. And that Falcons loss was about 1% at most on Brees. We are multiple losses from having that conversation. We could not stop the falcons on third down and we could not block. Wrong time to stir up the “Brees is done argument”.
