Payton and players using their platform for good (1 Viewer)

I gotta chime in with this.
I love how New Orleans is and should be the example for the rest of the country.
Protests: police threat it like a parade and chaperone, it never turns violent.
Celebrity involvement: Gayle Benson forms a coalition of Pelicans and Saints players.

I have always said New Orleans is actually a melting pot and should be recognized as an example to the United States
New Orleans and Louisiana so far has shone well in this as striking the right balance of peaceful expression. Makes one proud and gives some hope.

That said, I'm very much on the fence about virtue signaling from Sports figures and celebrities. It's anyone's right to speak out. But it kind of gets ruined for me when public figures feels like they have to issue a carefully thought out ritual statement to check a box on political and social issues. Morphs into calculated PR.

Everyone has an opinion. I prefer for Sports and celebrities to not to push theirs at me and I certainly don't rush to Twitter waiting for the ritual platitudes every-time there is something happening with expectation they need to make a statement.

Actions, not words.

Chicago just saw it's deadliest Memorial Day weekend in 4 years. Why wasn't there protest for that?? There's really no sense for any of it, but yet, here we are. Lives alone matter when the police are involved I guess.

Police take an oath and we hold them to a higher standard. It's hard to tackle the criminal activity you describe AND the Police who have the backing of the government. Give'em a break please.

But, in this case I do side with the Saints. You say actions speak louder than words. Davis, Brees, Jenkins, Watson, Morstead, try to find fault in how they conduct themselves. None of them are all talk, and those are just the ones that pop into my head easily. The Saints under Gayle have been very involved in the community, and I know when Kaepernick was starting his thing, the Saints got involved in public trying to make a difference. I forget the particulars it’s buried in the board somewhere here.

All lives matter

Listen. This article you keep posting, PROVES that black lives are treated differently. The police in this article were brought to justice. In most of the murders of unarmed black men by police, the murderers have walked free. So keep posting this story like a moronic 1st grader. Every time you do, it shines the light on the fact that white people are murdered, our justice system takes it serious and does it's best to bring the murderer to justice. But if someone black is murdered it takes rioting in the streets just to get the guy charged. Keep posting it! Show how our society repeatedly tells us that white lives are more important than black ones. With these idiotic repost you have become the biggest source of proof on here as to why the Black Lives Matter movement is here.

Since there are so many of them, let me help others who want to reply to your posts!

Cut and Paste: Superfan would like to reiterate that if the police kill white people, justice will be swift. But when black people are killed by the police, it takes rioting or a large scale social media campaigns just to see the officers arrested but usually they are acquitted. Join Superfan in showing that Black Lives Matter!

The Saints have two of the most outspoken players in the league regarding social justice issues in Damario Davis and Malcolm Jenkins. I think it speaks to the maturity and leadership of Payton and ownership to bring Jenkins back after Kaepernick's protests. Cam Jordan has also been very active. Ben Watson was a very active player in addressing social justice, but does so in a way that has appealed to conservative listeners and audience conducive to Brees. Brees is obviously not a player that would consider kneeling. He is very pro military. There is a religious connection between Brees, Watson, and Davis. Each of these players is a leader in his own way. Political wormhole aside. I am proud as a Saints fan that this group of people can each express views that may not fit in the same box in a partisan two party talking points box, but speak to aid community and social change in each their own ways to bring people together. Brees may never do the same actions of Davis or Jenkins, but the man has done different paths like meals during Covid in New Orleans that go above and beyond. These kinds of things make me proud to be a Saints fan and gives me hope unity and working together across the divisions a lot of media tries to build in people for ratings can be on prominent display on at least one form of media. At the end these are all millionaires and we all have our real lives and people we know but I appreciate players that use their platform to make the world a better place. Peace.
We have to remember that Brees’ kid is also in the hospital right now with a staph infection in his bone and that Drew’s attention is 100% elsewhere for perfectly understandable reasons.

Sensitive topic to play sarcasm with.

Just wanted to get in before someone mentioned murders in Chicago or looting. Just wanted to chime in and mock the fokks who don't want to mix football and politics...like the two are ever separate. The Saints organization taking a stand against police brutality means a lot.

The only way I can address Saints fans who have an issue with the team making a statement against police brutality is mock them. The only other option is to argue. Neither is productive. But its the internet, so...
