Well, we have a new Batman (1 Viewer)

Hot take: The only actually good Batman movie (as in telling a Batman story that feels like an actual Batman story) in the Nolan trilogy is Batman Begins. The Dark Knight is a really good movie but it's not a particularly great Batman movie.

These are my thoughts exactly. The Dark Knight is the better movie, but Begins is the best Batman movie.

While I don't hate it, it's definitely the weakest of the three films. Bane's annoying voice, some plot holes, and especially the dopey bomb countdown ending hurt it.

Begins is by far the best of the three. Dark Knight would have been really good if they hadn't forced the "Batman sacrifices his credibility to save Harvey's memory" thing at the end. That kind of ruined an otherwise excellent film for me. I know they were following the Frank Miller story line from the comics, but by combining the Joker and Two Face story lines, it caused the ending to make no sense.

I thought they followed Loeb with the Long Halloween with that plot with Harvey.

That's the warmest Hot Take I've ever read. Lol

Yeah, defending Batman Begins as the best of the trilogy is going out on a very low and sturdy branch.

While I totally agree Begins is the best of the Nolan trilogy, I'll never understand the disdain for Rises.

For me, it was always a logic issue. There are good aspects - Catwoman was appropriately morally gray, Bane wasn't terrible - but I couldn't get over healing a broken back with a slap. I couldn't get over Batman flying a nuke offshore with seconds to spare, knowing that it would be nowhere near far enough to prevent it from having catastrophic ecological impacts on Gotham, at LEAST. Didn't love the Talia/Bane twist. And I just hate the idea of Batman looking to hang up the tights. His drive is what makes him, him. I don't think he's someone generally looking to retire to Paris with a lady friend. And there was the cringe-worthy "you should go by your middle name...Robin."

And I say that as someone who generally goes into movies and doesn't pick up on plot holes or logic flaws as long as it feels authentic. It just always felt like a movie that Nolan wasn't sure what he wanted to do with. I think Heath Ledger's passing probably had a fair amount to do with that considering they always said they wouldn't recast.

It wasn't always that way. I'd say it's only been really the last few years where I've seen more people reevaluate the series to raise Batman Begins' status and admit that TDK maybe wasnt "omg the greatest thing ever."

I knew Matt Reeves was going to bring. My only concern was Pattison's performance. On this alone, I am stoked.

You know what? I like it.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I didn’t have high expectations for this film. That changed today.
