Ryan Clark Calls Sean Payton a Thug (1 Viewer)

Not sure if I buy that, like so many others do so often, he is playing a role....a paid actor.....most of them are IMO.....

He called the man a thug on national television. That's a personal attack. That's not playing a role. Playing a role would be Skip Bayless pretending like LeBron James was never that good.

Proven backups who have had starting roles. Jamies, Dalton, Brissett, etc. Stidham is tied with Jamies for the 10th highest paid backup. Agree that they are inflated, but why pay a guy who has never proved he's worth the $?
I mean, it doesn't really matter why; that's what the market conditions are.

And I'll posit that Ryan Clark doesn't know what a thug is if he thinks Payton is one. Payton is an egomaniacal prick (who I wish was still our head coach), but not a thug.

I asked @Rouxble to see if he could pull the metrics on our 2021 bunch because I wanted to see how they stacked up against Russ this season but film matches metrics more than stats. I'm not saying he is playing bad at all but when you look at film, there is no way that he is playing anywhere close to his contract.

And Russ' skillset really just doesn't really translate across systems.
I would be interested to see the metrics as well. I agree that he is not playing anywhere close to his contract, I would think a lot of that has to do with age and fitting into new systems (Hackett, then Sean). He excels in systems built around him, but can't handle trying to conform to an existing system due to his ego and unique play style. Not like he is coming to NOLA anyway, no way we could afford it and DA will stick with Carr until he gets the axe.

Because the QB market is out of control. Stupid franchises are so terrified of losing below average QBs that they'll give them $40m/yr.

I don't disagree regarding a mismatch between Russ and Sean; I'm simply pointing out the unnecessary theatrics and the lack of diplomacy involved. The fact there were discussions behind the scenes about waiving his injury clause, and then you start "getting in his face" is just theater. If we can get the playoffs, I'll continue the charade, but if we don't, I will make an example out of you.
Maybe Sean was diplomatic at first, but Russ called his bluff?

He tried that with Pete Carroll as well.

And why in the world would anyone give a shart?

Most of these idiotic sports shows are the same....., yell, scream, say outrageous things (which some role player almost always does on these shows, Clark being the latest example).....the purpose is attention and ratings.....

Also maybe you don't know the definition of roles.....

I really think no one is winning the Saints/Payton divorce.

Dennis - “Hello, my name is Dennis Allen”

CA(Coaches Anonymous) - “Hello Dennis!”

Dennis - “I get paid lots and lots of money pretending to be a football coach”.

couldve had Suh and likely collected that 2nd superbowl.. that Rams team doesnt make it past the Saints without Suh.. and we likely win it all with Suh.
but..... we crunched the numbers and said.. this is what we are going to pay you...
We could've had prime Reggie White and we were not winning that game. Fix was in before it started

And that's always been my thing with run, and big picture, how we truly evaluate a QB. We looked at his success in Seattle and equated that to skill but there has been glaring things about Russ since college. I agree with you 100% that Russ' ego might have a play in this. He was all about being named with the greats but those greats and him don't share the same skillset. I don't know if he wanted to extend his career and be more of a pocket passer but crap, that is just not his thing.

Regardless of whether you think the shows are idiotic, it's still uncharacteristic for someone in Clark's position to say what he said. Sports analysts are not hurling personal insults at coaches and players on a regular basis like that, which is why everyone else on the set got quiet after he made that comment. Saying he's playing a role is beside the point. Ryan crossed the line as a professional, in my opinion.

So last year when he was a losing diva, Russ was the enemy & fans wanted him GONE.

At the start of the season when they started off losing, SP sucks. Russ sucks.

They go on a nice little 5 win streak and Payton is a god.

Merely weeks later Payton benches Russ bc of clause in his contract Payton had nothing to do with so Payton is the bad guy.

Payton yells at Russ on the sidelines for messing up & he’s the bad guy.

Dennis Allen never yells at anyone on the sidelines when they mess up & he’s “soft” “not a leader” “has no heart; no fire for this team” and people wish he was like Sean who would not hesitate to light someone up on the sidelines

Derek Carr was constantly yelling at his teammates for missing plays and he’s public enemy #1.

White people call black players who intentionally hurt other players thugs and it’s racist. Black sports announcer call’s white coach who is intolerant of a mediocre QB diva shenanigans & sub-par performance (for a QB of his tenure & pay in the NFL) & bench is him due to a contract clause and everyone goes quiet.

May as well just do what you think is best bc someone is always going to have a problem with what you say/do.

Can you get those 2021 numbers for JW, TS, and Taysom?
None of them will rank well in DYAR because that’s a cumulative stat (adjusted for situation and opponent).

Also need to expand the qualifier to include any QB with at least 100 attempts.

That said:

DVOA
Winston 10th
Siemian 25th
Hill 31st (three QB’s in the top 32)

ANY/A
Winston 8th
Siemian 19th
Hill 31st

EPA/DB
Winston 3rd
Siemian 26th
Hill 22nd
