Ryan Clark Calls Sean Payton a Thug

Not if we’re running this same system tho. Russ would look worse than he does with Payton in Denver because it’s the same system, but worse play caller here.
He would definitely look worse, but I still think he is a league above Carr. If we were able to get an OC such as Ben Johnson + the win now mentality we already have established, I think wilson could have 2-3 more years of Top 10 QB play.

Should've been done earlier this season...somewhere around the 72-22 game then nobody wouldn't have said anything....they clawed back from 1-5 to a respectable spot then pulled the RW plug, that's what has some people up in arms.

Not me tho, I been saying Russ was trash and wouldn't work....and here we are.

Timing is sus....but I get it though - CSP just wants his own guy

Hard to build a program around an older qb with a big contract

Longer he keeps Russ the harder it is to justify ditching him if he plays above avg and harder to justify keeping him when/if he declines

Now is his chance to make the move while using the “previous regime “ position that he began using in preseason

Problem Sean has IMO is he doesn’t do great at selecting qbs

Ryan Clark sounds like he has an axe to grind. Stop acting like we all didn't hear about what was going on with Russ in the Broncos organization before Sean Payton got there. Sean Payton needed to set the tone to change a terrible culture that was taken advantage of by a washed up, overpaid, prima donna of a QB.

Not sure if I buy that, like so many others do so often, he is playing a role....a paid actor.....most of them are IMO.....

And he is still mediocre especially for the past few years. Come on dude.
Last year he was mediocre. So were Dalton and Winston. Russ made the pro bowl from 2017-2021. This year he ranks slightly behind Carr in QBR. Put him in a good system and he has 2-3 years of good play left.

What do you think he sees in Stidham? Has to be something to sign him to a 2 yr deal for 10 million. Chunk of change for a career backup. Maybe Sean believes he could be the guy.

With how inflated QB contracts are now, $5m/yr for a backup is really not that crazy. There are 10 backup QBs making more than $4m a year.

This is nothing new. It’s how Sean Payton is. Great coach with a huge ego. It’s his way or the highway and he wants to set a tone. it won’t hurt Denver. He did the same thing when he first got to New Orleans. Dude got balls.

This is Sean Payton

Proven backups who have had starting roles. Jamies, Dalton, Brissett, etc. Stidham is tied with Jamies for the 10th highest paid backup. Agree that they are inflated, but why pay a guy who has never proved he's worth the $?

He should have stopped after saying Wilson excels when the play breaks down. Somehow at his age that is still true. He has a 13:2 TD:INT ratio when under pressure this year.
LOL...I know right.

But I said this when everyone was clamoring for Russ (dang I got beat up in that thread  )
Now, I'm not saying that Russ cannot play in this system but for those that think that he will immediately come in and run our offense would need to temper their expectation. If we called Jameis a reclamation project because of interceptions, what would we call Russ based off his weaknesses. People misconstrue pointing out these weaknesses as saying that he isn't great. He is and he has the numbers to back it up. He also played in a system that covered some of these weaknesses (as any system should) and his athleticism made up for others.

I asked @Rouxble to see if he could pull the metrics on our 2021 bunch because I wanted to see how they stacked up against Russ this season but film matches metrics more than stats. I'm not saying he is playing bad at all but when you look at film, there is no way that he is playing anywhere close to his contract.

And Russ' skillset really just doesn't really translate across systems.
