I thought it was kind of known around the league - as I’ve certainly heard fans of other teams crack jokes about it.

To try and connect Bountygate to that is absurd, in my opinion.

Now it’s possible that the NFL said “Payton, we are going to drop some bounty suspensions in advance of these concussion lawsuits and if you don’t play along and take your suspension, we’ll make the Vicodin stuff public!”

But I don’t think the two things are connected directly.

Pretty hard to believe that the league would create some elaborate alternative story to suspend a coach rather than suspend him for what he did. This is a league that allows very controversial figures to take the field. And for it all to be perfectly covered up until some random NFL VP has a couple of drinks?

And that it was such a huge coverup that involved working with the FBI, yet the NFL shared all of this secret information to a lower level content employee for the Commanders.
