Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

This team isn't Davante Adams away from the Super Bowl. The pass rush and OL aren't good enough.

If they can get Adams for a good price fine, make the deal. But they shouldn't mortgage the future for a 32 year-old WR when they refuse to pay their 29 year-old RB or extend his contract. If they are going to mortgage the future to pay an older player, I'd rather give that money to Kamara over Adams, And, an Adams deal likely means they won't pay Kamara. So, that's the likely trade off.
The current offensive line isnt good enoguh, but when we get full strength we DEFINITELY are a Superbowl contender. 100%

When healthy, we are as good as any team in the NFC. So, adding Adams will surely help this team make the playoffs. The key is the health of guys like Taysom, Ruiz, McCoy, Kamara. I still think SF has the best team, but we can beat any of them.
Speaking of the 9ers, they currently have the most cap space available for this season. I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the trigger on a deal for Adams without having the Raiders eat any of his salary. He could be a rental for them just like Chase Young was last year.

Spot on. And it's unfortunately widely known in the league and the talking heads (see Amon Ra St. Brown and Emmanuel Acho) that the Saints are not contenders for the playoffs, let alone a Super Bowl so going in for Devante Adams really, financially, makes no sense. There are much more glaring needs to be addressed than a WR. And no, Dennis Allen and company are not Super Bowl caliber. Like you, I hope I'm wrong but......

The Saints acquiring Devante Adams is like me trying to buy a Ferrari. I really want it but I can't afford it and it's not going to help me day to day..........
Having Adams is not gonna help the Saints? Lmao.

Well, we could’ve been 4-0 with a couple of plays here and there. So no, it’s not a stretch to think we would be contenders with Adams. All I’ve heard on here the past two weeks, was how the offense “couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain”. Well Adams plays offense and he plays it pretty well. Lunacy

And having Adam’s on the field makes us 4-0, like guaranteed? it’s been the same every year the last few years and it’s the difference between making the playoffs and sitting at home is always a couple of plays here and there…..until this Saints team can break the spell of winning tight ball games against decent to good teams (and I sure hope they do) no matter who’s on the field, then I’m not about to say they are a WR away from being a contender…..

And how do you think the team can try and break the spell??? It’s called making an upgrade.
I’m sure if your car isn’t getting maximum fuel economy, then you just “keep doing what you’re doing”.

I didn't say Adams is not gonna help the Saints. I said that there are much more glaring needs to be addressed than a WR.

If Carr has no time to throw the ball due to a depleted O-line, a WR, regardless of who they are, can't help.
Are there any players available for trade that would be worth acquiring that would address those needs?

And we signed a starting caliber center this week, so if the rest of the line can get healthy enough, we should be in reasonable enough shape to keep Carr protected long enough to get the ball out on time. And Adams can definitely help with that. Not to mention how thin we are at WR behind Olave and Shaheed.

While I don't know that we're 4-0 with Adams, I do think it's obvious that we'd be 4-0 if McCoy had not gone down. Certainly having Hill fully available would have helped as well.

Right. A WR isn't going to help guys on both lines with their fundamentals or give them latent they don't have. The O line is getting blown up and forcing rushed throws and the D line doesn't get to other teams QBs. So I don't understand throwing future money and future assets at a position that won't improve those problems this year. It's better to sit tight, don't fudge the cap anymore and keep our picks.

Again, they picked up a starting caliber center this week, and that hopefully will right the ship to some degree. He's not at McCoy's level, but he's a guy who is a competent center and this allows the rest of the line to play the way they were before McCoy went down.

The weaknesses are being addressed, but we really do need another WR2 to take some attention off of Olave.

Starting caliber centers are not sitting on teams practice squads. His starting experience is on terrible Broncos and Jets teams and he was never on a team that was better than 7 wins in his 7 years as a pro. And he's wasn't good enough to be on any teams roster before we got desperate. We are scraping the barrel.

2 weeks ago everyone had us on the top of their super bowl potential list and there was people saying we are the best in the NFC.

We have among the best point diff in all of football.

How are we not in contention?

We are tied for first in the division.

Y'alls self-doubt about the team is weird.

Go get DA and win the super bowl.
because when its time to close out the game, we get hesitant and choke. You see Cinci this past weekend? it felt like the Saints. By letting all the weight of the game fall on their kicker. We have to prove that we can take one score games. If we had game 1 and 2's roster, then we continue to blow teams out. But we dont and have been exposed, so now we have to win like the rest of the NFL, close one score games. Getting DA would make this roster look closer to GM1 than without him.

I'd love to think that we will get healthy. But I think the injuries are piling up and at some point it's just too many to expect "next man up" to work. Kubiak has done a masterful job of scheming around the lack of talent on the OL and the injuries, but there is a limit to what even he can do. And now we have injuries at LB and DE that we really can't afford. I mean Hill is out with broken ribs and Kamara is playing with broken ribs. We are one good hit away from having Jamal Williams getting 20 plus touches per game behind a patch work OL which isn't good. So, if we get healthy sure we can contend for the NFC. I'm just not sure we are ever going to be "healthy" this season.

And we have 3 games in 10 days coming up with the injury list we have now. Most of those guys are unlikely to come off the injury list in the next 10 days so things could really turn bad over the next 3 games due to injuries. Hopefully not, but it is possible. And coming back to contend from 2-5 would be really difficult even with Adams.

So, I'm just not sure what Adams can do to make up for that given that he is unlikely to be traded fast enough to get up to speed to play in the next 2 games. Especially since he may have an injured hamstring. (Could be fake excuse to keep him off the field.) But, if they can get him for a decent price then I'm fine with finding out. I just don't want to see this team giving up a 2nd round pick and a ton of future cap space that we could use at other positions, if it turns out that we never get healthy enough for Adams to make a difference.

And frankly, if we get healthy I think we have enough to make a run without Adams and I'd rather keep the draft assets to get a weapon in the draft at a cheaper price so we can use some cap space to get some good OL and some pass rushers in free agency.

But hey, I'm just a fan and I hope I'm wrong. If they do trade for Adams I hope he transforms the offense and they go on a run.

nah, i get what you're saying but you're looking at it wrong. The reason McGovern was on a practice squad is because they are older vets that you cant depend on starting 17 games. But these type guys are good enough to play great still, but only for a few games, just not the whole season. If what you're saying is true, then they'd be insurance salesmen.
