Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary]

And how do you think the team can try and break the spell??? It’s called making an upgrade.
I’m sure if your car isn’t getting maximum fuel economy, then you just “keep doing what you’re doing”.

You sure have a lot of confidence that [Dennis Allen] can get better in close games.

Starting caliber centers are not sitting on teams practice squads. His starting experience is on terrible Broncos and Jets teams and he was never on a team that was better than 7 wins in his 7 years as a pro. And he's wasn't good enough to be on any teams roster before we got desperate. We are scraping the barrel.
Well yeah, you think you can do better? Who do you suggest then? And how would we obtain him?

That wasn’t really the premise. The premise is that we shouldn’t be throwing future assets away for one season rentals at positions that aren’t the reason we are in trouble in the first place. Adams doesn’t solve our problems. As thin as we are, the WR group is actually our strongest group on offense right now.

I didn't say Adams is not gonna help the Saints. I said that there are much more glaring needs to be addressed than a WR.
Nah, if there’s a player this good who wants to come play for the Saints, you do it. Saints are not a top destination for FAs regardless of what some think. This player is better than Olave and Shaheed. If a trade is what it takes to get him then that’s what it takes.

I’m just trying to get him a better shot at at.

Fair enough. I just think a healthy OL, an elite pass rusher, and/or the ability to learn how to manage end game situations is what he needs, not a WR. But, maybe Adams could make the difference in some situations.

nah, i get what you're saying but you're looking at it wrong. The reason McGovern was on a practice squad is because they are older vets that you cant depend on starting 17 games. But these type guys are good enough to play great still, but only for a few games, just not the whole season. If what you're saying is true, then they'd be insurance salesmen.
It’s not like they are old, both are 31. McGovern hasn’t missed games really. They just aren’t very good.

If all you have is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail. What I mean is that just because Adams is the only great player available in trade doesn't mean he's the solution to our problems.

I strongly disagree. There's a big dropoff after Shaheed. If either of him or Olave get hurt, the team will be seriously crippled. You can't have too many good wrs.

That said, there's a ceiling on what I'd do to get Adams, and 2nd round pick is a bit too much. I could live with a 3rd rounder tho.

And yes, Adams solves a big problem at WR because Shaheed isn't consistent enough to pull attention away from Olave. Adams absolutely can and will do that.

For all the crap the FO gets for not doing anything, now people are complaining when they actually do try. I don't get it.

Well, that takes us out of it. Should have known they didn’t want to take on money being they have the poorest owner in the league

The thing here is if the Raiders FO will want to trade him here. The team has the week 17 game circled on their calendar. Do they really want to trade Adams to a team he could help against them? They want to beat Carr bad.

The Saints can do things like extend Kamara to open up the space or they can do things like offer more or better draft picks to compensate the Raiders for taking some of the salary hit. I just hope they don't give up too much for him. I think they are building a good team with a few young building blocks for the future and I don't want to see them blow that on Adams.

I think he's a solution for the lack of depth at the WR position. He doesn't solve all of the other issues, but what he does bring is a way to mitigate some of the issues we're having with injuries. Definitely not a silver bullet and there are future considerations ML will have to consider in bringing him on board, but I trust he will structure it in a way that doesn't hurt the team too much in the next couple of years.

Time will tell I guess. I'm not saying give up a 1st or 2nd for him. Maybe a 3rd and the Raiders eating some cap will work, maybe not. I'm sure Loomis will walk away if he doesn't think it will work.
