Rizzi: Rattler and Haener will compete in practice to see who starts vs Commanders (1 Viewer)

I feel like Haener has shown he has a better command of the offense. The floor is higher with Haener, I love Rattler's elusiveness and big arm, but I think Haener has better touch, accuracy and better poise. If we are trying to win with the roster we have, I want to see Haener start.

I think that's all true about Haener, but I also tend to think his ceiling is good backup QB. As a result, I'd prefer to see more of Rattler so he can get more experience and learn from his mistakes. I'd also like to see him get a fairer shot with a decent OL and at least one actual NFL WR in MVS. Plus Rattler has the higher upside and I think it's time we start taking chances on higher upside players at the QB position. We have Carr who sets a decent bar that you can win with, but while we have that we should be taking chances on guys who have the ceiling to be great.

But, I'd also be fine with giving Haener starts to let him develop. Maybe he ends up being better. Or maybe he ends up doing enough to get us a draft pick in a trade.

Neither is a starting caliber NFL Quarterback. Let Haener start this time to see who is better suited to battle it out as the potential number 2 next year with hopefully a new number 1.

If it’s to see who’s better then play Heaner the first half and Rattler the second and flip them every week! Each would know exactly when their playing and get starter reps. At the end of the season you will know if we need to upgrade one or both positions

For you to make and absolute determination about what the ceiling will be on a player is just RIDICULOUS. Especially when you are not an NFL or even college scout, coach, player. You have NO clue what kind of a career either of these 2 QBs will have, ESPECIALLY 1 being a rookie and the other being a 2nd yr player that has never started a reg season game. SMH SMH SMH

My guess is that they pretty much had decided at the beginning of the week no matter what Rizzi said they just wanted to see if Rattler could have a great couple days of practise to out shine JH.

The same scouts that let these dudes drop to the 4th and 5th round? I don't think the scouts believed they are starting caliber QB's either.

Don’t like it, and if I were either QB I’d be frustrated. Pick someone and get them the snaps, no need to play both sides the fence.
It’s really telling when neither one stands out. The chances we happen to have two great young qbs that are amazing and it’s too difficult to distinguish which is best is not realistic. Closer to the truth is that both are mediocre at best.

Interesting. Regarding Haener, I think you're correct about his ceiling being a good backup from a probability standpoint. There is however, an off chance he is a good starter. Top 10 probability is much lower, but let's not forget even Jordan Love looked worse than Haener in his first few dozen pass plays throwing 3 ints vs Haener's 0.

We're often short of memory. But Love looked like an average backup at best and not starter material in his few dozen passes, and even in his first few full games as a starter.

I would like to see SR, but his mistakes were glaringly bad when he started. Sure, people want to blame that on the starters and to some small degree they are correct. But Im in the reverse. I think Haener has more upside then SR while SR will be a career backup. The question for me is will Haener also just be a backup. Granted, its more probable, but we need to see more.

Rattler had a decimated offensive line. He should get a chance with the original 1st game starting 5.

SFIAH

I don't understand these comments. We saw Rattler struggle and with the same players on the field Haener came in and immediately drove the field for a touchdown.

How can you look at that and say "Rattler is better". Haener got it done when Rattler couldn't in the exact same game with the exact same teammates. More impressive is the gameplan was tailored for Rattler and not Haener. Everyone who is in support of Rattler has completely ignored that.
