Is Mike McCarthy possibly the Saints next head coach if Dallas lets him walk? (1 Viewer)

I wouldn't turn cartwheels over it but I wouldn't be disappointed either. McCarthy is a proven regular season winner.

BTW, I would put Belichick more in the anomaly category then Reid. A decade ago, Andy Reid was sort in the same position as McCarthy is right now: very good, consistently-winning HC who had won a lot of games but unlike even McCarthy, hadn't won the Super Bowl or was criticized by his detractors in Philly and even early on in Kansas City that he couldn't advance past a.certain point in the post-season. A borderline HOF HC, maybe at best. He could make very good QB's look better then they really were but until he found "his guy" "his Tom Brady" in Patrick Mahomes, he'd only won one post season game as Chiefs HC. When he found his "Brady", this almost-mythical, superhuman duel-purpose QB, he found a way to maximize every possible aspect of talent he knew existed in Mahomes, plus he had a great supporting cast already in place.

He's not really an anomaly, he just finally found that guy who makes the pieces all fall into place and can still succeed whenever it screws up sometimes. McCarthy had that sort of superstar QB in Aaron Rodgers for over a decade and aside from one SB win, he left quite a few wins in the regular-season and post-season on the table.

Well, he's a much better option than Aaron Glenn, Brady or Kliff Kingsbury. Considering the candidates out there, he would not be a bad choice. But, he'd have to have someone other than Loomis as GM.
There's is no coach that has been involved with developing more QB talent than Kingsbury. from Mahomes to Murray to Williams to Daniels. He was not a bad HC in AZ. He had to deal with Murray and Covid and the Bidwells. He's in my top 5 of guys we should be going after

Come on, read coverage from his Arizona stint. He is not head coach material.

BS , watch the games. And how's that new HC working out for them?? 2 losing seasons in a row. Murray is still a screw up. And just how is Wash's offense and Daniels doing under Kingsbury? Forget the talking heads they are just looking for clicks

I don't care what he's doing as a coordinator with one of the smartest, most athletic young QBs to come into the league recently. He's not a head coach and he hasn't developed Daniels and he didn't develop Murray.

And, no Mahomes is a freak, generational talent that Kingsbury can take zero credit for.

He improved AZ 3 yrs in a row including the covid yr. Then headcase Murray played like crap and got hurt in his last yr. SMH Oh of course he hasn't developed Daniels LOL SMH. Come back when you really get it

I would take Kingsbury. I’m willing to bet that he learned a lot from his first go round as HC.

Yes JD5 was super polished coming out of college, however, Kliff designed an offense that kept JD5 from making rookie mistakes. As time passed, he opened up the playbook, once Jayden got everything down. That’s exactly how to mold a rookie QB. Build the confidence of your QB, then allow him to sling it

He gets results, sure, but aside that great 2010 SB run, how many potential other SB appearances and wins has he lost out on because he got massively out-coached, his teams out-played, and frankly, in key pressure moments in post-season games in GB and Dallas, he choked. 2009, going 15-1 in 2011 and falling flat on his fat arse against a 9-7 NYG team, getting beat two years in a row by S.F. in 2012-13, losing a NFCCG he had dead to rights @ Seattle but due to horrendous late-game HC and bad luck, GB choked away a near 2-TD lead in the last 4:00 minutes. He had two HOF QB's and all he has to show for it is one SB and that game couldve easily gone other way if Pittsburgh doesn't make a few key turnovers in the 2nd half.

When it comes to winning close post-season games, McCarthy is no Belichick or Andy Reid and he loses far more then he wins.
Are Belichick or Reid available???

I stand by everything I wrote, including my belief that he is not responsible for any of the things I've seen Daniels do off script -- which is quite a bit.

We're not going to agree and we're not going to sway each other by going back and forth.

I maintain Kingsbury is a subpar candidate for HC. Your argument just doesn't work for me. For example, in one breath you say he developed Murray and in another you say Murray is a head case and contributed to Kingsbury being fired. So, which is it?

That's fair, but doesn't mean he's qualified to be a HC. I still don't think he can take credit for what Daniels has done this year.
