Is Mike McCarthy possibly the Saints next head coach if Dallas lets him walk? (1 Viewer)

He gets results, sure, but aside that great 2010 SB run, how many potential other SB appearances and wins has he lost out on because he got massively out-coached, his teams out-played, and frankly, in key pressure moments in post-season games in GB and Dallas, he choked. 2009, going 15-1 in 2011 and falling flat on his fat arse against a 9-7 NYG team, getting beat two years in a row by S.F. in 2012-13, losing a NFCCG he had dead to rights @ Seattle but due to horrendous late-game HC and bad luck, GB choked away a near 2-TD lead in the last 4:00 minutes. He had two HOF QB's and all he has to show for it is one SB and that game couldve easily gone other way if Pittsburgh doesn't make a few key turnovers in the 2nd half.

When it comes to winning close post-season games, McCarthy is no Belichick or Andy Reid and he loses far more then he wins.
That sounds eerily familiar.

I don't care if he carries himself like a DUCK, He's a QB whisperer and a great offensive guy. All he'll need is a great DC

Murray is a spoiled player that gets by just on talent and not preparation and is lazy

Mike McCarthy is another retread dinosaur who looks like he ate the couch. He rode Aaron Rodgers jock to a title. He and Dak have been a joke in the playoffs, year over year. He's a monotone-talking doorknob personality (like Dennis). He's already been potty-trained by Jerry, so of course that might appeal to Mickey. There's a sports comedy radio guy in Dallas who does a great impression of McCarthy, saying the word footboll 5 times every sentence.

Bad take DS.

I mentioned somewhere in this thread that Kliff is the type of guy, that would learn from his mistakes. Here’s a quote from him today that echoes what I said. I can just tell by looking at the guy the way he handles himself. He’s got that “look” about him.

MM isn't going anywhere this offseason. He'll stay put in Dallas for now. They'll likely focus on getting Dak help at RB and also trying to shore up the line to help with their run D.

I don't think Ds and I agree on much, at least related to head coach candidates, but in his defense I think he was referring to Kliff Kingsbury, not McCarthy.

If McCarthy ended up here I'd burn every bit of Saints gear I had.

Dude only got a ring because Roethlisberger picked a terrible time to thrown a terrible pick 6.

We can say the same for Brett Favre in the NFCCG. Not a pick 6, but still an untimely interception. There was a good chance Minny would’ve won the game in regulation, had Farve completed that pass. Turnovers happen. It’s part of the game. Luck plays a part, but luck counts

Speaks to what I mentioned earlier in the thread. Bottom line is he had his team in position to be there.

One could say Sean Payton only got a ring literally because of a coin flip result.

Right, and do you want to hire Brad Childress to coach the Saints? I thought not.

Where in my post did I say anything about McCarthy??? My response was to your statement that Kingbury carries himself like a selfish hipster. Which I could care less about and matters so much to you that you would say so
Maybe you reply to a post it should be ABOUT the post you are replying to bud

I could live with Kingsbury getting hired here, as I think there's a level match in personalty flaws between the Saints and KK.

I prioritize the young offensive coach over the retreads.

Kliff was Mike Leach's first star QB running the Air Raid. That was a fairly unstoppable west coast, quick passing offense with lots of 4 and 5 receiver sets. They ran the ball well too, with the "splits" where the olinemen line up with a yard or two of distance between them. But the pedal to the metal offense does not translate in the pros (see Chip Kelly).

Tech could never recruit a defense so they could not win the big games late in the season.

But Leach was an innovator and rebel, like Payton.

Kliff has to show he has grown up. He's been petulant, superficial, and arrogant. He was all hat no cattle in Arizona. He has a personality similar to Baker Mayfield's, another guy who started at Texas Tech. Mayfield is finally maturing.

If Kliff has matured, then maybe he can fulfill the style and aura of Mike Leach, The Pirate.

l'll take Kingsbury for what he represents football-wise. A young offensive coach, whose lack of chops makes him a viable candidate in NOLA.

No to everyone else not named Joe Brady or Liam Coen. No to McCarthy - you will hate the guy. Maybe Vrabel because at least you know what you are going to get. A stable but boring football team.
