I think even getting involved or having input on staff selection is kind of out of pocket for a GM. Like why on earth would Loomis have motive to want to keep any of these guys on our staff?
The process should be, we hire a head coach who we believe in, and we let him select his staff. It's unheard of for a GM to say "it'd be really nice if you kept these guys on" kinda thing.
The previous hiring cycle was about maintaining what Payton had built. They (wrongly) thought the train would just keep moving. The desire for familiarity dos not have to mean that they are looking to keep the status quo. Aaron Glenn is not Dennis Allen. All of this talk of ego and whatnot is just more fan board psychologist nonsense. The previous hiring cycle with Allen and now apparently zeroing in on someone who has a history with the team tells me he’s not looking for anyone who’ll shake things up.
I don’t think Joe Brady has any business sniffing head coaching jobs anywhere just yet, needs at least a couple more years as an OC.Out of curiosity, do you feel the same about Joe Brady who has a history with the team?
Well, there are some things wrong with it. We've seen it play out many times late in games, and it's probably cost us at least a couple of Super Bowl opportunities. When you run a man-heavy scheme, you live and die by the individual performances of above-average players, and if injuries hit, things go downhill in a hurry. Look at Detroit's defense over the last several weeks.People hate consistency, but it’s a smart way of doing business. The Ravens have been running the same defensive scheme for years. No matter who’s the DC they are tutored in it.
There’s nothing wrong w/ the scheme. Glenn and Ryan Nielsen took it to different places and had success. Allen had a passive defensive philosophy and the better defenses in the league are blitzing.
Respectfully the turnovers went way down after we lost Allen’s play-calling.
With all that being said I’d rather Rizzi over Glenn if retaining coaches is part of the negotiations. That probably may include Kubiak among others.
Why is it automatically people are assuming that it's Adolph Loomis saying " You Vill keep see Ovensive coordinator und his staff or you vill not get de job" SMH Sounds like maybe ML is seeing if Gleen would be open to keeping KK and the O staff . Not like it's never happened beforeOne thing to be open to keeping coaches (versus just firing everyone), another to be forced to keep certain coaches whether the head coach believes it is best for the team or not. I would like to believe it is the former instead of the latter.
AG is not my 1st choice for HC , I'll say that 1st. But he has the #6 defense in pts allowed and it would probably be better if the Lions O was not so good because with big leads the other teams O gets garbage pts and ydsJust because he acknowledges what happened in New Orleans doesn't make him the right hire for head coach here. I agree that he has credentials, even though I'm personally not impressed by them, either here as DB coach or in Detroit. Sure, he seems like a standup guy, but he's a terrible fit here -- especially as long as Loomis continues to wield any kind of influence over personnel or hiring staff. That doesn't mean I think Glenn a 'yes man', but I do think he'd allow Loomis to continue the false and destructive narrative that the team is 'close'.
Additionally, I believe many of the same schemes that have doomed this team lately on defense will remain. His defenses in Detroit -- even without injuries -- have been average to slightly above average. There is nothing new he brings here. Just because he works with Dan Campbell, doesn't mean he is anything like Dan Campbell from a culture perspective. I mean, is he going to bring Brad Holmes with him?
I continue to believe Glenn is best suited to the Jets or another team, because he'll get a clean slate there, without the baggage of Loomis and the Payton era.
