The Electric Vehicle (EV) discussion thread (Merged)

Let's look at this logically: he has completely alienated the market for his cars with his braindead antics. The other side of the culture war may love him right now, but they're hardly known for their love of EVs.

So the people who did buy his product despise him now, and the people who love him now despise his product.

I'm not exactly Lee Iacocca, but that seems like a poor recipe for success.

That's not even getting into the plummeting oversees sales.

His trucks had a bad night at the parades. Nobody wants to confess on who’s idea this was?

Officials with the Krewe of Orpheus, which was founded in 1993 by crooner Harry Connick Jr., were silent Wednesday. The krewe's spokesperson, Renee Matthews, refused to answer questions about the trucks. She referred questions to Orpheus co-founder Sonny Borey, who did not respond to calls.

These are Tesla corporate stores (they don't have independent dealers) and they reported selling 8,600 Teslas over a three-day period in January . . . and then later claimed $43 million in rebates. And the timing of this activity is suspiciously close to an announcement that the rebate program was coming to an end.

Canadian officials are investigating an unusual spike in Tesla vehicle sales that coincided with the suspension of the federal EV rebate program in January. Over a three-day period, Tesla reported selling 8,600 vehicles at four locations across the country, resulting in $43 million in government rebates.

One Tesla location in Toronto reported more than 1,200 sales on January 11 alone, accounting for $4 million in rebates. These figures have raised concerns among industry analysts, who question whether the registrations were legitimate or whether Tesla knew about the rebate program’s impending pause.

The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association has urged Transport Canada to investigate, citing potential misuse of the rebate system. Attempts to reach Tesla for comment have gone unanswered.

The federal EV rebate program, facilitating over 500,000 electric vehicle purchases since its inception, was paused on January 13, 72 hours after the government signaled its potential suspension. Officials are now reviewing the Tesla sales data to determine if any irregularities occurred during the program’s final days.

Tesla sales are down in China, Europe, and the US despite EV growth in these regions. Other companies are coming with new models especially Chinese EV companies. Until Tesla comes out with a new model that doesn’t look like it’s Cybertruck, it’s going to get worse. Musk image doesn’t help either.

Tesla announced 5 yr/60 mo with 0% rate to try and boost sales

Just put my $100 deposit down to reserve a Rivian R2. Supposed to come out in first half of 2026. All they are saying on mileage is 300+. Hope they have a max battery option that pushes it into the top half of the 300s at a minimum.

Wanted to get my wife an R1S, but she has decided there are some home projects she wants instead, so she's sticking with the old Honda Odyssey for now.

i have never seen a Rivian vehicle before, or honestly even heard of them. coincidentally i got behind one just now.
i dig the look of this pickup.
(Don't worry, I was behind him in a construction zone so I was stopped for a good 10 minutes..)

They are getting to be common where I live. Also have seen a bunch more cybertrucks than would seem to be statistically likely. I guess Greensboro is a hotbed of EV uptake.

there are a few rivians out here. oddly, i was seeing cybertrucks frequently, haven't seen one in a while.
