2013 Hip-Hop (3 Viewers)

Hopsin's new album came out. Only listened to one song so far and it was...okay. Sounds like it's really really dark.

I've been away from the music board for a bit but I read this entire thread.

WTH? You guys are slipping, yapping about kiddie rappers:hihi:

this is the first time in years ive heard anything remotely decent from Del. he fell off so hard for a long time.

The top rap albums of this year (no particular order) :

Kanye West - Yeezus (8.5) : The critics agree. This is one of the best album this year. Always pushing the limits, it's a grower. Saw him in Toronto last week, best show I've ever been to. Kendrick was opening, that was an incredible night. Kanye West is still one of the GOATs.

Childish Gambino - Because The Internet (8.5) : Great album. I liked Camp, I like this even better, and with the screenplay and everything it really becomes an adventure. The production on this is just out of this world.

Milo - Things that happens at day/at night (8.2) : Great underground rapper. I like the production on this, it's really an atmosphere that I like. Some great songs on this LP.

Flatbush Zombies - BetterOffDead (8.0) : The production. The lyrics. Everything is good on this. Juice is amazing in a crazy way. They will be big one day.

Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels (7.7) : Wow. Didn't expect that. Agressive hip hop, very original. El-P & Killer Mike together, that makes one original sound, and I like it a lot.

Drake - Nothing Was The Same (7.6) : Wasn't so sure about this album on first listen, but it eventually grew up and became one of my favorite rap albums of the year. What a talented young man.

Tech N9ne - Something Else (7.5) : I listened to this album with no expectations at all and was pleasantly surprised, good variety of songs on this.

The let downs :

Eminem - TMMLP2 (5.4) : Trash. Old Em >> New Em. Stronger than I was, seriously?! He became exactly what he was bashing back in the days. So many bad songs on that album. Monster, LOL. Survival of the fittest, seriously?! And it's very sad cause you can see glimpses of greatness with Berzerk and the last tracks of the album. But damn, he's a parody of himself now.

Kid Cudi - Indicud (2.9) : I will never listen to this album again.

Earl Sweatshirt - Doris : I understand those who like him. But I don't, I really don't. I don't really like that lazy flow.

French Montana - Excuse My French : Same thing all over again. Some good songs, but so many fillers.

Big K.R.I.T - King Remembered In Time : Same thing all over again too. He will need to change his style a little bit cause it will wear off, fast. It has already begun. His debut album flopped hard.

J. Cole - Born Sinner : It wasn't bad. But it didn't live up to the expectations. Same old Cole. He's playing it safe, too safe.

Jay Z -MCHG : Production is on point. But the lyrics and everything else are bad.

All and all, good year for hip hop, but not a great year. With all the big names that dropped albums, I expected a better result. Can't wait for 2014 now! Schoolboy Q, new Kanye, new Kendrick, can't wait.
