I can see a bit of Ninkovick like you’re saying because he doesn’t look like an amazing athlete on tape, but he has 10 pounds on Rob and is a touch faster/quicker. Basically I would bring up the statement about Landry’s elite company just to say, you can’t omit a guy’s test numbers just because he doesn’t fit the narrative. Hubbard’s three-cone is incredible for his size.

5 lbs are more like it.

Nink's last listed weight was 260.

I also didnt mention anything about Landry.

Everything on paper points to Landry having a top notch career as a DE or OLB. I just question his run stopping ability and 3-down capacity at his weight early.

I would prefer DE's like

Rasheem Green
Duke Ejiofor
John Franklin Myers

That go about 275-280 that run a 4.7 or better though I would "settle" for a guy like Landry at 27.

Another DT Bruce Hector

pj hall update. 4.68 to 4.76 40 time. 308 lbs.

Hall, who was dominant for three days of shrine practice, measured 6004/308 pounds. He touched an impressive 38 inches in the vertical jump, reached 9-feet-8-inches in the broad jump and completed 36 reps on the bench.

Yeah! He did it!

Rob was only 6'2 250. Thats why Sean said they didn't have a "plan" for him when he was here because he was an undersized Rusher. In NE he put on 5 lb's and was basically used as a passrushing Sam that did some spot drops.

Hubbard is 6'5 270....no seeing the correlation.

Yeah well ask Cam Jordan about that.

He looked like an entirely different player once he dropped that 10lbs or so of extra weight. And 10lbs of muscle translates to a lot of power in many cases like with Clay Matthews' added bulk of 10+ lbs from USC to Green Bay.

Margus Hunt was an even bigger, stronger and faster freak than Aruna but if you play too high and upright then none of it matters. I liked Hunt at 3-4 olb coming out too because of his measurables but he hasn't gotten the opportunity to play there.

I think Aruna's height at 6-6 might limit him from becoming a player like Danielle Hunter because it hurts his leverage. I think that Josh Sweat might have a better chance to play like Hunter or Robert Mathis at LE because he is shorter and his speed and lack of bend would hurt him less there.

Aruna on tape reminds me of a fast Bobby McCray.

So Clay Mathews is allowed to add 10 lbs of bulk and get stronger/faster but not Aruna? The kid has only been in a strength program and playing football for a handful of years. You don't think an NFL strength program over Tulane is going to benefit him? I don't think you understand how easy it is for these guys to add 10 lbs of muscle and carry it with no problem. I put on 15 lbs of muscle in a summer and was stronger, faster, quicker, and every other positive that could come out of it. I guarantee you not 1 single scout is sitting there worrying if he can play at 270 and keep his athletcism.

Is he 6'4 or 6'0 and 1/4th?

6'0 and some change. People keep comparing him to Aaron Donald, which makes sense, as their stats are nearly identical.

But PJ's productivity is straight up unbelievable. 14 blocked kicks? as I recall from a pass rusher/interior lineman? Nearly hundred tackles for loss? Was it forty-something sacks? 10 forced fumbles? 30 passes broken up? Some interceptions?

EDIT - here you go. Check out these stats. https://saintsreport.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7011503&postcount=81

If the dude is Rob Ninkovick, I would be happy with that.

Gotta have athleticism to block Kicks and I'm sure his 38 inch vert has something to do with that.

The only problem I have with guys like that is just the simple fact that the odds are stacked against them because they are undersized.

Take Rankins for instance. If Rankins had Onyemata's body he'd be killing it right now..but he doesn't and you saw what he looked like last year when asked to play starter snaps.

Oyemata actually graded better than Rankins in run defense and was only about 2 points off as a passrusher. Thats with Rankins having the better ability, football acumen, and pedigree.

Saints drafted him because he had potential to be the next aaron donald, geno atkins, etc etc but those guys had special traits about them. Donald it was his elite athleticism 4.68(40), (35) Bench Reps, and ridiculous 7.11 3cone. Geno Atkins (and if you listen to players talk they'll tell you this his gift) had elite upper body strength (34) Bench Reps.

Rankins ran a 5.00, had a 7.44 3cone, and 28 reps on the Bench. Other than his above average vert there was no other "special" trait that stood out about him athletically.

Thats why he failed to have the impact he did last year as a full time starter vs when he was a 6th man to Fairley. That's also why the Saints focus on their prototypes....to play in the NFL athleticism is a need. Only so many players have gotten away with being less than stellar athletes but the majority of NFL players have a certain height/weight/size/speed combo that allows them to be successful.

Anyone undersized is going to have to work harder while also having slimmer chance.

I hear you EJW. But let's let him finish his pro day, see the rest of the measurables come in. He's killing it.

  • Compare Hall's measurables to Aaron Donald's.
  • Then compare their productivity.
  • Then re-wind his shrine game tape.
I'm telling you guys, this PJ Hall is a diamond.

Hubbard is 265

Mike Vrabel is another comparison.

6-4 261

Adding muscle doesnt fix stiff-hipped, upright player.

Hope springs eternal though.
