2022 NBA PLAYOFFS THREAD (2 Viewers)

So the Zion discussion. Many say he's good to go. His step-father has said he can play. I know someone who talks to him every now and then he (the person I know) thinks Zion is good to go.

But it's a huge question for Willie Green. The team is playing strong basketball and the chemistry that has developed is a really big part of that - and introducing a new element is very risky.

In this article from Barstool yesterday, he argues that with Booker going down, the Pelicans should seize the moment and put Zion in the lineup.

Agree or disagree.

Team chemistry is a real thing. Timing and anticipation are such huge elements of winning teams. On the other hand, no other sport can be so moved by one dominant player. I don't know, maybe if you get up big in the 4th, or if you go up 3-1, try to incorporate some minutes. Because it would definitely be better to have an integrated, healthy Zion for later rounds (if not this one)

Yeah it's a really tough question. I think it's sort of like whether a baseball manager pulls a pitcher that has gone six full innings with good stuff and you're in contention to win. If you leave him and the other team wins, you should have pulled him. If you pull him and they win, you were dumb for taking him out.

I agree. We had a discussion going on the Pels board about it and I'll say the same thing here. Bring him in off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game IF HE'S READY TO PLAY. Do NOT mess with the chemistry of the starting lineup. Hell, it seems to be working for the Warriors cuz Steph hasn't started a game in the series yet and they're up 3-0.

Obviously last years team was different, but it took Zion SEVERAL games to mesh with the team (and I’m not sure he and BI ever figured it out)

And at this point, if it ain’t broke…
I had wondered if Pels were down 0-3 then maybe we’d see him, but I say keep him on the bench for now

Agree that 'if it ain't broke' is powerful here.

Couldn't one argue that being down 0-3 against the top seed in the conference makes the risk/reward unappealing on bringing him back?

And that’s the thing - you really don’t know if he’s ready to play until he plays - if I remember right, his defense was woeful last year, what chance is there that it’s better with so little time with the team?

You’d get 2 things bringing him in at 0-3:
- Maybe he’s the spark that turns things around (hey, we can dream)
- you at least get a one game self scout that gives you info for the draft

Does "good-to-go" mean he's 100% with no lingering issues or concerns? IMO, if there is even a smidge of doubt on his health, he sits and you roll with what you got you there. It's not worth it at this point to risk the future and what an aggravation of the injury might mean going forward. I typed all of this but I don't know the details of his injury other than something with the foot.

Funny you say that about Zion.

My Nuggets find themselves in this exact predicament.

Down an expected 3-0 due to the fact Denver hasn’t had two starters all year including its all-star Robin (Jamal Murray) for their Batman (Jokic).

Murray has been cleared to play. Denver’s season has 48 minutes left - 96 at best.

I am totally torn on if I want to see him play.

It has been such a frustrating year. To have the reigning and soon to be back to back MVP have no help, watch Michael Porter Jr’s back explode and no Murray, and still win almost 50 games.

Only to draw the fricken Warriors because they decided to take the month of March off

Would suck to reinjure that ACL at this point. Down 0-3, the season is over. Let him work his way back into playing shape for next season.
