Dang I saw it at 3-2 and figured it was done
Looks like I missed a good one
Not sure how many are following MLS’s pathological need to shoot itself in the foot while it’s in their mouth, but
I don’t quite get it. So they aren’t allowing the younger all star team to play the MLS All Star Team?
Yup money grabits an "open" cup- So theoretically, any team can participate ( think golf- US Open- where an amateur can qualify and play next to Phil ) - so long as they belong to a Pro League ( See below pyramid - so any team from first 4 levels are eligible )
MLS NEXT PRO is 3rd tier
U.S. Men's Soccer Pyramid
The U.S. Soccer 'pyramid' can be confusing and unlike anywhere in the world, with no promotion/relegation. The 'top tier' professional league, and most well-known is Major League Soccer (MLS). Below that is another two tiers of professional leagues, with the USL Championship, then below that USL...www.sportsrecruitingusa.com
So USL League 1 and NISA are BOTH in same tier and ELIGIBLE, but MLS NEXT is now not.
Now, i just read that the reason, if correct, makes a bit more sense. MLS teams were looking to field their MLS NEXT ( aka reserve team ) INSTEAD of their full Pro level ( "first team ) roster.
MLS apparently wanted to open more "match dates" in season- ( read: more gate revenue ) as opposed to playing the Rochester Rhinos in a 2500 seat field.
its.
always.
about.
money.
US Soccer blocks MLS from entering reserve teams into US Open Cup
Major League Soccer's controversial plan to have their reserve team clubs enter the US Open Cup instead of the first teams has been blocked by the US Soccer Federation, the two bodies said on Wednesday.www.france24.com
And if they wanted their ‘next’ players to play they could have easily expanded rosters for this tournament and called up the next players
Oh so money grab, now it makes sense
