{2023 Thread Bumped} Underhill Giving No Quarter to Nick Wright (1 Viewer)

Nick Wright is not completely wrong. We are losing players due to our cap that is pushed back etc. It's pretty factual, we don't have a fountain of infinity cap.
Actually, maybe they can. Every year or two the cap goes up. So by pushing dead money back you are paying salary later for cheaper. It’s like using your mortgage to pay off credit card money. Not only do you get a much lower interest rate but you spread the money over many years.

Businesses do this all the time. Even very profitable corporations will take a loan (or sell bonds) to spread expense over years so they have more cash today.

The problem with Wright’s take is (1) the Saints definitely signed Carr knowing these cuts were coming and so all this needs to be thought of as one move, not a desperate decision by a team wanting to win now, and (2) they actually got Carr at a good price. QBs cost $30 M a year these days, end of story. So if the Saints wanted a starter, this had to be done. It wasn’t a reckless move, it was a team that didn’t want to waste a year tanking only to miss out on the QB they wanted because someone traded up. The DLs they released can be replaced with FAs. Those three simply aren’t that good.

The guys signing with other team are no longer in the plans for the team, its called free agency, every team adds and subtracts to its roster, so yes Wright may not be completely wrong but his reasoning maybe.
yes, because they signed elsewhere for more money than what we could plan to afford, yes they are no longer in our plans. Nice catch there.

Oh man, Nick Wright got owned so he tried to big league Underhill by saying he had a TV show to do but we can talk later lololol. What a clown. National talking heads should never, under any circumstances, argue about a team with the reporter who covers that team for a living. No good can come from that. Your limited knowledge will be exposed. Stick to Lebron and Aaron Rodgers. Much safer lane to stay in.

What makes you say they signed for more money than we could afford? Could it not be that we just wanted to go in a different direction? We literally just gave the biggest contract in free agency a week ago

Perhaps there are other examples to reference in making this point, such as Marcus Williams or Trey Hendrickson, but it's pretty clear here that the Saints simply decided they didn't want these guys back at this price. This is the same practice that teams are lauded for when they play the compensatory pick game and let talent walk out the door for big contracts. Both of these guys were homegrown talent obtained for a combined 4th round pick and simply reached the point of outkicking their coverage from a cost perspective.

Yea I’m not worried shout Shy and David leaving, or Marcus, but I agree with Nick on the general point. Folks here won’t tho lol.

Nick Wrong is the most least knowledgeable person in the history of sports talk media. It really angers me, that people like him get the opportunity to be a prominent voice, and he truly sucks at at. I’m talking garbage bin juice bad.
IDK man have you ever heard of Chris Simms??

yea, its nothing to get upset about. Saints have to be careful with our signings and lack thereof. We are in tread lightly years and have been for about 2 years now.
None of it is worth getting upset about. That’s another thing that many folks don’t get tho lol. Many can’t stand that another person dares to have their own take on something, that may not jive with their own. Bigotry runs rampant these days. I appreciate different points of view, it would be so boring if we were the Borg. (Yes I’m a dork lol)

Seriously?
People unwilling to be open to any other point of view. You think there aren’t folks in this forum who fit that description???
Ad hominem attacks when someone dares disagree, ridicule from the herd etc.

: a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc.
