2024 PGA Championship (1 Viewer)

having come up to something similar years ago ( on Hwy 22 ) , its very unsettling at night, with just officers about w/ flashlights and yelling at drivers and you cant tell if they are talking direct to you or another driver. I thought the Trooper had "Waved me on to pass" when the movement of his flashlight looked as if he was waving me on, but he didnt and another ran up to my car and slammed my hood ( was only going like 3mph as i had just started to go )

At that moment i had no clue what i did wrong. They were yelling at me and i was freaked out. They didnt haul me off and i guess cuz i was creeping along when they stopped me..

I hope its nothing more than that for Scottie. And it looks like they were in rain so i bet his windows were up making it that much harder to hear/listen to instruction.

That's bananas. Especially since Scheffler is - by all accounts I've seen - a very humble and down to earth guy. Which doesn't mean he was or wasn't in the wrong here, but he is just the DEAD last guy on tour you'd expect to get into trouble with the police.

The BWC will tell the story. I’m sure the DA is looking at it and if it’s clearly wrong and illegal on his part, you have to think this will be dismissed with nothing further.

But the charges are so significant! At least one ADA that charged him believed it was appropriate. The second degree assault charge requires intent to cause injury. The criminal mischief charge requires some destruction of property.

I’d really like to see that BWC

The property he damaged is the detective’s $80 pants 🤣

That police department is notorious for being a bunch of thugs and the DA's office has notoriously defended them. I'm fully expecting them to double down and quite frankly, it'll be glorious.

Scheffler has not been charged with anything yet--the arresting officers decided the offenses he was booked on--and I fully expect the DA's office to quickly announce no charges will be brought. I can't believe he intentionally did anything wrong. This is an embarrassment to Louisville. I suspect city officials have heard from the city's business leaders and those running Valhalla and are loudly asking the police chief how did you guys mess this up so badly. This could affect future PGA events and participation in Louisville.

FYI Sheffler shot 66 (5 under) today.
It just shows the difference between a guy who is completely in tune with his game versus a guy who hardly plays enough competitive golf to remember how to chip and read putts.
Tiger needed to play a 2-under round just to make the cut for the weekend. But after playing just 5 holes he is already 7-OVER for the day. It’s completely falling apart for him.

Scheffler spent the morning in jail and had no time to even warm up before starting his round, but still shot a 5-under 66 even with all that legal stuff hanging over his head. Sadly, Woods just can’t play competitive golf anymore. I’m truly surprised that he still keeps trying to play knowing that he no longer has a winning golf game. Still, he moves the needle at every tournament where he tees it up. Obviously everyone still wants to see him in these major tournaments even though the game has passed him by.

Story as old as time for pro athletes. Staying well past their expiration date. The competitive nature they have had their entire lives, the juice that comes with, the adoration and the euphoria is simply too hard to let go. For Tiger, i would bet none of that - its all him vs him. His body is so ravaged by the sport, accidents, injuries, but he cant accept it.

And its so hard to watch guys like Tiger try to recapture their greatness when, like you said, the game has passed them by. ( physically- i think mentally if his body could perform, he would be on top )

its also why i have an affinity, even if i cant stand the player, to see guys that are supposed to be well past their "Sell by date" still doing their thing after decades of play in their sport.

But he remains good for the game. ESPN is following Tiger, who will not come close to making the cut, as much as the leaders.

Tiger’s mental fortitude used to be the difference between winning with his ’A’ game and still winning with his ‘B minus’ game. Part of the reason for his mental strength back then was that he knew he could reach deep inside himself to make good things happen when he needed to shift gears.

He no longer believes he has that ability. Frankly no one could possibly have such confidence while only playing a dozen competitive rounds per year. The biggest bet on the sportsbooks these days when he is in the field is whether he will WD before the weekend.

I followed Tiger his entire career and watched him do things that often seemed nearly impossible. No one more than me would want to see Tiger find some of that golf prowess that he once brought to every tournament he played… every time.

Tiger has made it clear that he will never again play in more than the most prestigious golf tournaments. But with such a schedule as that, he will never again be able to have a great mental game even if his body would allow him to make those great shots of the past.

I believe that Tiger will hang it up sooner than later. You are correct that he is well past his expiration date. But I’m glad that he still tries to find the old magic. Somehow his presence is still good for golf. I just wish that he wasn’t embarrassing himself so much in the process. 😢

I like Tiger more now than I ever have (that was more about the sports media only reporting on Tiger). Finally "human" and still out there doing it proving he just loves the game. Dude's got ishes, though, that became very public.

When he crashed and burned in his personal life, a lot of his game went as well. I don’t have golf heroes or role models, so I don’t get involved in all the news/stories about golfers outside of what happens on the golf course. It’s a shame when any golfer loses his playing edge due to the issues in their personal life.
