A few of my favorite things (or at least one) (1 Viewer)

Also super duper expensive.. still boggles my mind how Asia can have some of the poorest countries on the planet, yet still has two of the most insanely expensive, NYC/San Fran/London level expensive countries in the world in Japan and Singapore .
I’m not so sure about that. Ab&b are cheap and I’m only interested in street food. First time there we are staying in a nice place for $30 and we are looking to go all out the last 4 days but penthouses are $70-80. we aren’t even giving up the first bnb when we go to Vũng Tàu just so we have a place to leave some of our luggage.

you can get a personal driver for $100 a day to drive you from city to city and don’t even have to get them a room. Feels like exploitation to me but that is the way the locals do it if they have money.

Ba Nà Hills is a French vacation spot from their colonization days. Supposedly that is the only place we will be spending anything that looks like real money but even that isn’t bad

The epic itinerary is in place

Fly to Los Angeles and stay for 4 days.

LA to Singapore for a day.

Fly into Saigon and stay for 2 days.

Vũng Tàu for a day.

Back to Saigon and fly to Quy Nhon for 4 days

Fly to Hanoi, stay for 2 days

Train to Phòng Nhà caves, one day

Train to Hue, 1 day

Train to Danang, stay for 3 to go to Ba Na Hill and Hồi An

Back to Quy Nhon

Fly tờ Bangkok, 4 days

Bangkok to Saigon and stay the last 4 before flying directly back to NOLA.

I never in my wildest …
If you need some insights, PM me. My wife is Vietnamese and I have spent a lot of time in those places. Was just in SGN for Xmas (with stops in TPE and BKK).

Gotcha.. i didnt spend enough time in either Singapore or Japan to have a really informed opinion- but just from what ive seen and read, they seem to be astronomically expensive places to live, though maybe not as much so if ur just visiting .

I would assume Japan is expensive but I’ve heard mixed things on that note.

And as it turns out, we have a layover in Singapore but she did not book the one that would have let us get out and about. I cant even get sad because I never expected any of this when I haven’t even been to Europe yet. I’m no world traveler.

Hanoi was a last minute add but once I started watching tour videos there, I’m really excited that we didn’t skip it.

Same same .

Ive never been to Europe either.. ive crossed the Canadian border a couple different times at Niagara Falls, but- even though i spent about 17 yrs living in CA and in TX- ive never been to Mexico ! Of course, i really know how to pick ‘em since the only times ive EVER left the USA were to go to Australia years ago, and then Asia recently- both were the absolute longest flights you can take on Earth.. each about 27 hrs door to door.. LAX to Sydney and then years later Hou to BKK were each 15 hr legs, which- unless they changed it- are the longest that passenger planes can fly before stopping to refuel .

We can only hope to one day have as many stamps in out passports as @guidomerkinsrules

The only other woman I was ever engaged to was from very far south in Mexico, a town called Chetumal. It’s the capital of the state Cancun is in but about 5 hours south by car. So I’ve never crossed a border except in a plane. I’d probably be living down there had my mom not had cancer at the time. The plan was for my fiancé to move here but she had similar reasons for not being able to leave her mom. I had no stress when I was down there. We stayed in Cancun a good bit as well but that was just like Merica

It's nice they finally have electricity in Vietnam.
they have a ton of it lol. This is one of the funniest things I ever see in pictures of Asia and now I can take tne pictures myself. This one is rather tame but it’s right outside our door. I just keep asking people what do you do when there is a problem.
