We've interviewed a good bit of people. And I feel like with what we have in front of us we can tell a few things.

First and foremost Pitcher and Waldron are out and will not be here.....which leaves 6 candidates left that we have interviewed. Curry,Kubiak,Griese, Johnson, Robinson and Sullivan.

A handful of the candidates are no longer in the play-offs(Johnson Hou , Robinson LAR.) you would think with both of them out of the play-offs what would be stopping us from hiring either of them right now? the answer is nothing. Which leads me to believe 1 of 2 things. 1. We simply didn't like the interviews they gave and aren't interested............or.......2. They would prefer to wait and see if better opportunities present themselves on other teams. Which makes me believe.......Neither Robinson or Johnson will be the OC here.

So that leaves 4 guys. Curry I would assume is the "favorite" in certain circles. Although again.......if Curry was the guy.....why haven't you hired him? Same for Mike Sullivan. One of the only 2 guys on this list to actually be an OC. He was the OC in Tampa and the OC in NY for like 1 year a piece. Tampa was a top 10 offense when he was there. NY was a bottom 10 offense when he was there. But if he was the guy.......what is stopping you from hiring him?

Which leads me to believe........the guy the saints want at OC is still in the play -offs. And those are Kubiak and Griese. One of those guys is who I believe will be the next OC of the Saints. Or at least I'm hoping.

Part of me is leaning towards Griese. For a plethora of reasons. 1. Has played and coached and gotten fully acclimated to the shananhan offense as well as the kubiak version of it. And i'm not talking just Kyle. I'm talking Mike too. Griese was in the original super saiyan version of it with Daddy Mike and has now been working directly in the super saiyan god version with Kyle. He hand picked Purdy. Developed him . Made him an MVP candidate as Mr. Irrelevant. Understands game flow and is just a new pair of eyes and with a fresh vision of what offense works. Which is what we need. But then again....... what do i know...right?

If Curry was the guy you'd think they'd have tried him at play calling and moved Pete back to Xs and Os. I have a hard time believing our offense will improve either.
You're very right in that. However one thing that worries me....is that Mickey stood up in his press conference half way through the season and said " I believe with all my heart that we've got the right people in the building. I know we do.""

And that one sentence scares the crap out of me....For 2 reasons. 1. Firing Carmichael is a direct admittance that the right people were not in the building that you believed with all your heart......UNLESS!!!!.......2. Curry was always the plan for OC.
Then Curry....the guy already in the building becomes the de facto savior while keeping Mickey's pride in tact because the answer.........that you believed with all your heart......really was in the building.
Even though you didn't believe he was capable of calling plays outside of one preseason game during a year our offense was atroicious for the majority of the year.

Like I said. Just start fresh. Get a guy that will completely rid of us payton and his offense.
Get Griese. He's a young guy. He has seen and partook in the best offenses the nfl has ever seen.......and he has seen them evolve. Give him a shot. He understands how to make players work in an offense. And if it doesn't work oh well....we tried

I think youre right. There is nothing more important to Mickey Loomis than his pride and wanting to look like the smartest guy in the room. It will be another lazy OC hire that he will slam against the wall until he can say he is a genius again. And when that fails, and when Allen fails again, he will find new ways to keep doing the same thing over and over against expecting a different result.

The only question is, how long is this going to go on. 1 season, 2 seasons? Does Gayle ever step in and correct the course? It just feels like we running on bananas here.

The thing that jumps out at me about a lot of the guys they have interviewed is that they're familiar with modern offenses. Using motion to create impossible situations for defenders and getting the ball to playmakers in space. If they interview all these guys and then go with Curry then I don't know. Will Curry stick to the timing/precision SP style of offense or will he incorporate some modern concepts? If Curry is the guy that's fine just as long as he has some imagination.

I've been getting my hopes up thinking about AK, Shaheed, Taysom, and Olave playing in a modern offense. They have been lethal despite not having much space on the field. Just imagine what Shaheed could do motioning out and already being near top speed at the snap. Good luck covering that dude. If the defense has to think a little bit about what is coming that will be huge. Especially against pass rushers. All they've had to do is pin their ears back and get after it. Didn't have to worry about the run, misdirection, screens, etc. Not a lot of trickery or deception. If the new OC can just get the front 7 to hesitate for an instant because they don't know what's coming then that will help the O line and QB in a big way.

One of the interesting things that these offenses do is just varying the snap count. Every now and then, just snap the ball the instant you get to the line. Carr likes to do his hard counts to get a read on the defense, but sometimes it’s better to just snap the ball before the defense can assess the formation and get aligned.

It’s almost the same idea as trying to confuse the defense with motion, the defense has little time to communicate before the ball is snapped. Also, the defenders that are trying to sell coverage before stepping up into a blitz position are too far away to impact the play when the ball gets snapped during the sell.

I've often wondered why the Saints don't vary the count more. The downside is that you run the risk of having one of your O lineman get a false start but just mixing it up can be so effective. Back in the day I remember QBs would do like three huts before the snap. Next play, 2 huts and so on. Now it's, "Ready...set!". There's a rhythm to it and it seems like it would be easy to time as a pass rusher. How about, "Ready...set...alright, alright, alright...set!"?

The weirdest thing about the Pete Carmichael Era is that we used to do all those things under SP and even in the games where Pete called plays for Payton we did those things. And then he totally went away from them until he started getting bullied by local media over using motion.

There was some weird stuff happening on Airline. I have no idea what it was but something was way off.

It's not like a GM is going to stand up in the middle of a season and say "we don't have the right people in the building so we are likely going to suck for the rest of the year." I think people often get too bent out of shape about what Loomis says when a large part of his job is public relations and many of his statements are intended for the general public, not people on this forum who live and breath Saints football. Despite what some think, Loomis isn't dumb, he knows there are issues on the team and with the organization, he just doesn't always agree with all of us regarding what those issues are. But, it does appear clear that he knows the offense needs to be changed.

I think Curry is the fall back position, if they can't get the guys they want then they will turn to Curry. And, honestly, none of us know if Curry is a good OC or not. Truthfully, the Saints don't even know that. But, they would know if he has some new ideas that are different from what Carmichael did and I would think that Curry has to know that whatever Carmichael did, or didn't do, is what got him fired.

Still, I think they want to go with a new system and new blood at OC, but you need to have a fall back position in case that doesn't work. I do like Griese and Kubiak as OC candidates. But, it's also a dangerous game to wait for guys still in the playoffs while other potential candidates go to other teams. But, maybe one of those guys was their guy the entire time. I tend to think they really wanted Pitcher, but that's just a guess on my part.

would you hire Curry if he was never on the Saints to begin with?

Why has no other team interviewed him?

Just curious.

Enough with these in house hires. It gets this team no where.

Was not a fan of the DA hire either. Then or now.

That’s just how I feel.

Curry did interview for Tampa's OC job last year.
