Adam Schefter: I expect the Saints to have some level of interest in Mike Vrabel [mod edit] (2 Viewers)

Breaking news!

Over half the teams in the NFL are already stuck in purgatory!! Lol

There’s only a few really terrible teams and only a few great teams in the league. Most of these teams are middle of the pack aka purgatory.

Yeah, lol That's all you got?

When you've had as many winning seasons as the Steelers have had since the 1970's, your fans get spoiled...very badly!
My wife is from Pittsburgh and she laments how some Steeler fans just want Tomlin gone...

I told her if Steeler management is dumb enough to get rid of him he would be hired in within minutes by teams like ours...
The Rooney's don't fire head coaches.

A question, folks. Not wanting bash anybody's opinion, just wondering.

Why are some people clamoring for Vrabel? Other than the Saints, I don't follow any team, so I don't know about his coaching, other than the record.
As head coach he had 4 winning seasons w/1 winning playoff appearance. His last 2 years (after his best 1), were worse than DA(before the M*A*S*H unit this year). He inherited a decent team, something he wouldn't be getting here. He ended up .545 reg season & .400 playoffs.

Everybody wants a new, modern system, how is his "New"? Has he shown that it can work against the "new" type of O? His heyday was in NE as a DC, but his D system worked better in TN, for the 1st 4 years. He was a top DC in the same time as DA.

Thanks

Vrabel is ok, I guess.

Do not want Aaron Glenn.

What I really want is another offensive minded HC but who’ll also field a tough defense.

From legends to coaches who have their teams in the thick of the playoff race (Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Bill Cowher, Pete Carroll, Sean McDermott, John Harbaugh, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn)... the list is long of successful head coaches who come from the defensive side of the ball.

Seems the expectation here is to get another Sean Payton/Sean McVay/Andy Reid type, a HC who calls the offense; and that's why fans want OC's who are successful with their current teams. But remember, Ben Johnson is not the HC of the Lions. It really depends on who a head coach brings in to call the offense, if he doesn't do it himself.
To be fair:

Belichick - Success 5 Years Ago
Carroll - Success 5 Years Ago
Cowher - Success 20 years Ago
Ryans - One Good Season
Quinn - One Good Season

Vrabel repeatedly proved himself as a brilliant gameday coach & tactician (like Belichick). He was stuck in a dysfunctional organization without having personnel control. He did not want Will Levis and was visibly upset over the draft day A.J. Brown trade. So any critique of his last couple seasons needs to be analyzed with those variables in mind.

Didn’t Nick Underhill say Vrabel wouldn’t be interested? Or was that addressed already?

-Give me Vrabel.
-Draft 2 TEs
*Tyler Warren and Mason Taylor (1st and 3rd rd).

Shades of Gronk and Hernandez in NE……..minus the Hernandez murderish thing.

That way if we get a rash of injuries to Wide outs, then we can still create mismatches.

I hope ML thanks me for my armchair GM abilities to help him look good.

He was just speculating. Thinks Vrabel will be a hot commodity and that he will want a stable, promising QB situation.

Quinn took a 6-10 Clown team to the SB 2 seasons later; he also took a 4-13 Washington team and has it in the playoffs, looking that they'll end with 12 wins.

Ryans took a 3-13 team to the playoffs and a playoff win his first year. This year the Texans are 9-6, so that's at least another winning season.

The Seahawks went to the playoffs in 2022 and 2020, which is more recent than 5 years ago.

Belichick may have been 5 years ago, but his teams dominated the NFL for 17 years.

I like Vrabel, but don’t really want a defensive minded head coach. He got lucky that Ryan Tannehill played out of his mind when he was looking to get a contract. The Saints have been putrid on offense for too long and have no QB. It doesn’t make sense to build a team with a defensive minded head coach in this situation.
Yes so let’s get an offensive coach in here to work with no qbs. We need a good coach. Dan Campball is a defensive coach but he has a great OC. It needs to be more than just a good head coach. It needs to be a good staff.

I’m sure I heard underhill say he heard Vrabel is not interested. It didn’t sound like speculation.
