Adam Schefter: I expect the Saints to have some level of interest in Mike Vrabel [mod edit] (4 Viewers)

Of course he'll need the horses, which is a challenge within itself, but I think Vrabel is the kind of coach who could come in and steady the ship. If he does and then can't take the next step, you move to the next guy and hand him a much better situation than Vrabel would inherit.

I don't think this is a quick turnaround, the next coach might be the guy who sets up the coach after him, who might get us back to being a serious competitor.

I would be pleased if we are able to get Mike Vrabel.

He is still fairly young and he was successful in Nashville.
Proven track record--I'd be fine with Vrabel.

Todd Monken would be my first pick-Coached and successful at every level
58 yrs old. Coaching family.
Has coached 10 years in NFL-TB, Cle, and Bal
National Championships OC with GA
He's ready

This is a guy more people should be talking about.

My mind is starting to warm up to the idea of Vrabel. If not Ben Johnson, who might have his sights set on a bigger media market, then Vrabel would be a stabilizing hire.

Monken would represent a similar gamble to that taken on Payton in '06. An assistant hungry for the opportunity sounds good to me. Wish he was younger, though.

You have to ask why Monken hasn't been a HC yet...

Of course Buddy Ryan became a HC late in his career.

I'm all in on Vrabel.
He seems like the person that would come in and right the ship immediately.
No BS type of HC.

Aaron Glenn would be swapping in Dennis Allen's secondary coach after firing Dennis Allen.

I'm sure Glenn has grown, but having the best offense in the league tends to help a defense. This team needs a full reset with a coach who can give it an identity to hang its hat on (i.e. a young offensive coach). Is Aaron Glenn's defense team-defining? I doubt it. No Payton/DA connections.
Yeah, I'm a firm no on Glenn. Vrabel I'm not sold on. He checks some boxes but I'm not sure he's a fit for what I'd like to see.

My preferences are no retreads, and with rare exceptions, no defensive type head coach. I want an Xs and Os young up and coming offensive coordinator with 5+ years experience coaching in the NFL. That narrows the field considerably.

It narrows it to Ben Johnson, but I just don't get the sense he'd come here. He's off to a larger market.

Based on why Vrabel ended up leaving the Titans, I don't think we will end up with him as our HC.

It apparently came down to control over the roster!
I don't think he will be given control over our roster either...

Hopefully the way things fell apart in Nashville, he has changed his stance on this issue.

If not he will end up coaching on the college level.

The Jets and Raiders seem to be the likely favorites for Vrabel based on reports. I’d be fine with Glenn if we’re unable to land Johnson or Vrabel.

I disagree, ML's MO is to give most of the roster control to the HC, he even did a lot of that with DA and Vrabel is a better HC than DA could be. In fact it may be the thing that would be appealing to a Vrabel type HC

It was clear Payton had a lot of roster control but I didn't realize DA had as much.

I would love to switch to a 3-4 scheme & I was impressed how Vrabel immediately had the Titans playing aggressive tough football.
It would be great to see him do that in NOLA!

I’d much rather have Vrabel. He was always impressive. Like a tougher Billicheck. I think they even changed the rules due to him taking advantage of loopholes in rules. Two that come to mind is intentionally false starting on a punt late in the half so the clock would restart instead of taking delay of game. Also, just flat out intentionally holding all of the receivers at the line of scrimmage and not letting them release at all at the end of the half. Forcing teams to kick a fg instead of taking a shot at a TD.
We currently have a coach that doesn’t even know the clock restarts late in the half when you fumble out of bounds.
