Alvin Kamara pleads no contest to lesser misdemeanor charge, jury trial is cancelled; civil suit also settled on confidential terms (1 Viewer)

Great, great news. Both the felony case and civil case resolved.

It was a terrible, regrettable incident, but I've always felt this is way out of character for Kamara. Still do.

Ready to move forward. Man, he's been looking extra quick in those camp drills and that's saying a lot. And now he has valid competition on the team. This RB group is very, very good.

I mean, that's all well and good.

But I'm not sure how you can argue that Kamara getting a plea deal at the same time his civil suit gets settled for "confidential" terms....isn't overwhelmingly likely that it's a case of a rich guy paying off the victim.

I would say, based on what you're saying, the civil suit might not have been for as much as most assume.

And for the record, I'm not saying I care about the "victim" at all. Just saying, I think it's overwhelmingly likely he got paid.

All victims of illegal battery have a right to sue the person that battered them. I doubt this victim got some wild and crazy settlement because personal injury damages at trial are based on the injury and the treatment, not how much money the defendant has. I don't know what this particular victim's injuries and medical treatment was, but it's not million dollar case unless he has some kind of permanent injury from it (I don't think he does but I don't know).

If the DA wants to know that the victim is compensated and will consent to a plea, that gives the victim some leverage and I suspect he got a nice settlement - but we're not talking seven figures or anything like that.

But yes, it completely makes sense that these things would be coordinated. The DA doesn't have to have the victim's consent to take a plea - it just makes sense when everyone agrees to the same result.

$$$$

6 game suspension coming since it is the baseline under the conduct policy, but it will probably get reduced since that's the norm.

Maybe he'll be explosive for all the games he does play in, not just some of them.

Happy for him that he avoids jail. Not sure why some seem upset about his plea deal. It happens everyday in this country for larger crimes involving lesser individuals.
Apparently, a few Falcons fans in disguise here wished that he be burned at the stake. My only guess.

Pays to be rich, you get to play by different rules then the rest of us.
You ain't gotta be rich. My buddy was charged with multiple felonies in St Tammany. He got a cheap lawyer and they plead it down pre-trial intervention. No jail time a monthly supervision fee. Just had to stay of jail for a year. I hate to tell you this but this sort of stuff happens all the time.

My guess with the league's suspension will be six-to-eight games. Because of the publicity generated and the video, I would say eight. Fortunately, this is a first-time and one-event incident for Kamara and does not involve domestic abuse.

But hopefully the league will act quickly, and Kamara can begin the suspension in week one.

But if the police were called you would go to jail and face charges.

Kamara was arrested and arraigned with charges. He then pled to a deal for lesser charges, which is exactly what happens in more than 9 out of 10 cases.
