Alvin Kamara pleads no contest to lesser misdemeanor charge, jury trial is cancelled; civil suit also settled on confidential terms (1 Viewer)

This explains a lot................

While Greene initially requested damages of $10 million from Kamara, a notice of removal in Louisiana court last November said that Kamara had never actually been formally served with the lawsuit. The two men reached a private settlement on July 10 according to Greene’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee.

Buzbee said on his Instagram account that the settlement also included a public apology from Kamara.

As I have said many times, Kamara would have to plead to a lessor charge that has a no jail time. I really didn't think they would offer him a plea deal. I guess deep pockets prevailed in this case.

Plea deals are common, regardless of a defendant's financial means. The practice helps to ease the load on the court system by moving cases through more quickly. It was always highly probable that he would plead to lesser charges rather than for this to go to trial, get convicted on felony charges, and do jail time.

Btw.....@ing me is not very classy, considering I am here every day. All you really needed to do is reply to one of my post.
there were many times where people mentioned the % of cases that plea out, but you were convinced this case was different because of the evidence and the DA's vow to punish these types of crimes in his city.

And your point is? What? As I said he would need a plea deal w/ no jail time. I didn't think one was forthcoming, but, Greene settled w/ Kamara this month and that seemed take the air out of NVs prosecutions case. Another thing I thought wouldn't happen. But, it did.

Im still in the camp of "we likely don't know the full story." We don't know if this guy instigated anything inside the bar before everyone left. Although that doesn't make any of thise actions better, that may be why the case was settled with lesser charges. We simply don't know.

The rumor I've heard from someone who probably has good info is that the casino agreed to drop trespassing charges against the "victim" in exchange for part of this consideration. Evidently the guy has previously been banned and has also had previous encounters with other athletes/celebrities.

It seems odd to me. But I'm from an era where butt whippings were common for folks that asked for it. Police were usually never involved. I surely don't see anything felonious about it. Dude played a stupid game and his prize matched his stupidity.

Yep. The only difference is there were a couple of them beating on this guy or I'd completely agree. I've screwed around and taken my share and given some too. Never had the cops called except when I was working at a bar and someone got out of hand and then it was 100% cops otw.

Now that this saga is over, I have to say it. Alvin let me down. (I won't speak for anyone else.)

The only NFL jersey I've ever owned is #41. I've watched Alvin play since he was a rookie and his game has energized me. Who can forget his 6 TD masterpiece?!

But, by letting his temper get the best of him, he let me down. Yes, he's human, and we are all flawed. I get that. But our tempers are our worst enemies, and I hope Alvin learns from this. For the team, I hope his NFL penalty isn't overly harsh.

Oh, I'll keep wearing my #41 whenever he plays. But, I sincerely hope he takes this opportunity to self improve and not let anyone set him off again. I know in my heart he's better than that, and I wish him the best.

Love your game, Alvin, but please do better.

point is, that's pretty much what majority of the posters over multiple threads said would likely happen, but you were very positive that wouldn't happen in this case.
I'm pretty sure you even said there was no way that they would accept a misdemeanor plea, maybe I am remembering incorrectly..

Question now is "breach of peace" considered "assault" by the NFL?

It doesn't matter. The NFL doesn't have to go with what it was plead down to. There's video. He's going to get at least the minimum, the baseline for a violation of the conduct policy. That will get appealed and then we'll know what the final number is probably 4-6.
