Another drummer appreciation thread

There are so many unsung heroes that made the music I've come to love. I don’t know that I ever conciously acknowledged how awesome the beginning of "Rock With You" is because the entire song is great. This intro is instantly recognizable. I dont know if it's time and familiarity or if it's just that sick but I can't imagine them picking a better start. It's perfect. Makes me wonder about the other little parts of your favorite songs, that make the songs, but go unnoticed.

Im really suprised that this hasnt made it here yet.

Most people don't understand how amazing this was. Every other drummer that comes on to their show needs to listen to a song(without drums), they take notes, make passes here and there then give it a stab.

Chad smith listens to the music for about 30 seconds(pun intended) and just rips right into it sounding like the actual drummer for the band. I have probably watched this at least 20 times now.

Same here. It's simply incredible. I will never get tired of watching this video. I wish there were more (at least blind trying it like Chad)

Yeah I looked too. Chad was the only one to do it that way. It's funny, some haters out there were trying to say it was fake, but that quickly got quashed because they didnt watch the full video to see where one of his sticks broke while playing and he grabbed another on the base drum and during that moment you hear the snare go quiet.

I did post two videos of the same session with Chad on page 6.

Chad has had the luxury to play with one of the best bassist and one of the best guitarist of all time. Anthony isn't the best singer, but he does good. (Much better than Dave Grohl in my opinion.)

You also have to consider that Chad Smith is in his 60's and rock music is his genre, that he plays in. I don't think the song was out of his basket of tricks, especially considering he plays with Flea!!! Chad is great drummer, no doubt about it, but it wasn't much of a challenge.

He should of got a complex jazz song, or a death metal song to make it fair. They were easy with him considering Chad's skill level. That's just my take though.

I was fortunate enough to take drum lessons from one for the best teachers in the city when I was in high school and college, Ray Fransen. There was a surprise celebration for the 40th anniversary of his drum shop in Kenner at South Port Hall. These are all drummers that had a relationship with Ray, whether it was as a student or business association. There's a few notable drummers that attended, Guy Gelso from Zebra, Stanton Moore from Galatic, and Johnny Vidacovich, famous NO drummer who plays with Astral Project. I'm the fourth guy from the left, Ray is in the middle.
