Anyone miss Sean Payton now even the biggest detractors? (15 Viewers)

Well, we are at a point were we’re more than forty years from that time and a large portion of the fanbase wasn’t alive for that.

He did say in Franchise history. If we were Packers fans would we not count Vince Lombardi because it was so long ago?

Well, everyone conveniently forgets the over two and a half decade of nothingness the Packers had post Lombardi to Favre…

Serious level of delusion to suggest Sean Payton was the reason that Mickey Loomis hired DA to be head coach of the Saints.
Please educate yourself before calling people delusional….

He literally was the first one to recommend DA for the job when we were starting interviews.

lol are you saying he didn’t give his endorsement to Loomis to hire DA?

If so, you my friend, are delusional

Still quit. He had his reasons and I respect that, but I'm not gonna whine about it like so many in here.

Between the dudes missing SP and the Jameis worship on here, annoying. Dudes can let go.
It starts to sting a little more when they masses realize that Dennis Allen is truly incompetent. Problem is the one's above him are more incompetent. They hired him, didn't fire him, put Pete as the coordinator, signed a bunch of old guys to large cap restricting contracts, have picked busted draft pick after busted draft pick and most of those busts were secured by trading future assets. Yeah, this team is screwed.

Please read again, I am not suggesting that Payton didn’t ‘endorse’ DA.

Mickey Loomis has the most power of any GM in the NFL, other than Jerry Jones. Hiring someone purely because his friend ‘endorsed’ him is not how an executive at this level should operate. Mickey Loomis made the decision to hire Allen and if you’re trying to suggest anyone else did then you don’t understand how this league works.

Nope. Allen was his handpicked successor. Brought him here to replace Rob Ryan before Rob Ryan was fired for building the crap Seattle copy defense Payton instructed him to build, and Payton recommended Allen on the way out.

Should have made a total clean break. Allen is Payton's lingering FU. Completely consistent with his skills as a manager, beyond offensive X's and O's.

Ok my apologies

But, I think Sean holds that much weight with Loomis.

I can without a doubt guarantee you if Payton didn’t approve or endorse DA he would not have even been considered.

How to retire a legend.

Step one, win.

Step two, suggest a guy that can’t win as your replacement.

Fair enough, will have to agree to disagree on this one.

All I’ll say though is that Loomis is a massive egomaniac. I just can’t believe he’s continuing to back Allen because Payton endorsed him (completely get you aren’t saying that but that’s effectively what he’s doing). He’s doing it out of a misguided sense of loyalty and because he thinks he’s smarter than the rest of us.

Any other GM would be fired for falling for that.
Exactly and the idea Payton did that is just absurd. He ‘endorsed’ (we don’t even know what that really means in this context) Allen because he was a good DC to him and they were friends. Not something anyone should over analyse or blame Payton for.

Loomis still made a decision that he had 100% control over and it’s that simple. I get the upset over the way SP left but people shouldn’t re-write history.

Loomis time is up too, or should be.

He was never a true football guy. He's admin. business man and always took his cue's from the coach. Gives lots of leash and tries to give the coach what he wants. He was no check on Payton's worst instincts with the defense. No counterweight like a Jim Finks would have been. I mean, when Allen wanted DeShaun Watson Loomis was trying to make it happen...
