As Brock Purdy advances, I wonder if Trey Lance will be available (2 Viewers)

You think someone would give a first? I can't see anything higher than a 3.
I have no clue. What I think is they don’t go next season with to youngsters, and as they advance the logical choice will be Purdy over Lance.

SF will keep Lance and Purdy for next year and let them duke it out for the starting job. Jimmy G. will be allowed to walk out in FA and they will get a 2024 comp pick for him.

SF hit solid gold with that flyer pick for Purdy. His contract is just $3.7m for four years and they can't even redo it until after the 2024 season. (All drafted players have to complete 3 years of their rookie contract before being eligible for a new one. The only way around that is to release him to waivers and hope no one claims him, and then resign him to a new contract. He will never clear waivers).

Only way it would make sense for them to trade Lance is if they get an offer they can't turn down, and that seems unlikely. He's under contract through 2024 so, if nothing else, they can continue developing him to compete and as an insurance policy.
Would make sense from the 49ers point of view but I can’t imagine Lance wanting to be back up to Mr Irrelevant. Have to think he’d request a trade.

I wouldn't mind the Saints spending a seconder rounder and 24 draft pick on Trey Lance. It's a reasonable risk for a player that might have a high yield. If doesn't work team isn't crippled by a bad contract or losing high end draft capital.
The media in the Bay Area said there were players on his team that called him One Play Trey. He is terrible....seriously.

Really? If true, that’s brutal from your own team mates. He must have been really bad in practice etc, to be called that.

True, but they gave up a lot for Lance and they have to pay neither of them next year. Remember, his dad drafted rg3 and Kirk the same year. Jimmy G is gone but this is not a problem for them right now.

He can request it but I don't see where he would have much leverage. I think he would at least go into next preseason and compete for the starting job and see where that leaves him. There's no reason for Shanahan and the Niners to overplay their hand with regards to either of their young QBs right now because they are in a very good position.
