Athleticism over Talent (1 Viewer)

Kind of a long winded post, but here goes. Brady, Brees, Rodgers and Manning kind of ruined for everyone got a while. These guys had superior arm talent and mechanics and led to them all having long, productive careers. In recent history, once qbs hit that mid 30's number, they were done and the team was looking for their next guy.
I'll bring up Cam Newton now, he was a dual threat guy that really relied on his legs. Once he hit his 30's that pop was gone and he had to rely on his arm and mechanics that he never truly developed and that led to him being benched and pretty much out of football at a relatively young age.

The point of this is you can draft these dual threat guys and know that they're going to give you a few great years of production, but if they never develop as a pocket passer, they're going to be out of league at an early age. You can draft a guy like AR and have, possibly, a great dual threat guy for 7-8 years, but just know that you'll be looking for another QB sooner than later. It's not racist, it's just the style of play. If Allen doesn't become better as a pocket passer, then he's the next Cam Newton. Same for Lamar, we saw how injuries can derail a season with him last year.

Mahommes and Burrow are what you want. If you took away their legs, they could still shred you through the air, those two qb's are so rare in today's NFL. Hurts has the potential to be that because I've seen that kid progress monumentally in the last few years as a passer.

No undertones to see here, folks.
Common man, sigh. I don't 100% agree with the OP but I get it. This same conversation applies to guys like Taysom, Jameis, Allen, Mahomes and Russell. But that would kill your narrative, wouldn't it? Can we have a conversation about running versus pocket QBs without that kind of BS.

How is Allen better than Hurts or Jackson long-term? People are comparing Richardson to Allen Right now. He was considered raw coming out, but he had the physical tools. The undertone of this discussion of athletic vs. non-athletic
Allen has three straight season with great passing numbers. He doesn’t depend on his legs like those other two guys.

2022 - 4283yds 35TD/15INT
2021 - 4407yds 36TD/15INT
2020 - 4544yds 37TD/10INT

Jackson has had plenty of years to prove consistent passing numbers and the book is still out on Hurts.

I don’t see any discussion of skin color by OP. Maybe look in the mirror.
The OP goes off about how “athletic” qbs are ruining the game and mentions only 3 by name who all just happen to be black and who are not the “traditional” qbs. One of the qbs he trashes as somehow inferior to the “traditional” qbs just led his team to the Super Bowl and had a great season. I know what I read, but you are also entitled to “see” whatever you want.

Clearly you see what you want to see. I clearly named Zach Wilson. Fact is most of these dual threat QBs coming out are black. Are they beyond critique and facts? Baker, Manzel, Davis mills, Josh Rosen, etc were all busts too. Problem is they weren’t dual threat. Except for maybe Manzel. Can’t help people like yourself that want to bring race into everything.

Stephon diggs accounts for a lot of that

I guessed I missed the MVP Josh got. Allen was viewed as a project coming out with a big upside.

To be fair, a lot of those Josh Allen passing stats are either directly set up by him scrambling or due to the defense trying to account for his running threat.

I’m not saying that he’s a bad passer but he is also far from a surgeon out there.

Brees never got an MVP lol
And Rogers has like four; what's your point? This whole idea that just because Drew didn't win an MVP means it's invalid. Lamar is only the second guy to win a unanimous MVP, but folks act like the award is trash because Drew didn't get one. Despite not getting one, he'll get in HOF as a first ballet guy.

You brought up the MVP award. My point is that the award doesn’t automatically put one player above another.

Lamar and Hurts have that same advantage. Allen is a much better passer than both.
