Battlestar Galactica Discussions (MERGED)

Discover Magazine has a transcript of a Q&A with Ron Moore, David Eick, Olmos, and McDonnell about the finale that addresses a lot of these things. About Cavil, they said

Moore: Cavill killing himself actually came from Dean Stockwell [the actor who played Cavill]. As scripted in that final climatic CIC battle, Tigh was going to grab Cavill and fling him over the edge of the upper level and he was going to fall to his death. Dean called me and said “y’know, I just really think that, in that moment, Cavill would realize the jig is up and it’s all hopeless, and he should just put a gun in his mouth and shoot himself.” And I said: “…Okay!”

This is my first post on this thread, but I have now seen the whole season. I found the season finale lacking, in all honesty, I think that the orginal series was better. I think that the problem is that there is just not a lot of story to work with other than keep inventing stuff. I mean the story is the homeworld is destroyed, and they are running away trying to find a new homeworld. Everything else was just kind of filler. There is not much you can do with that story line over and over again, hence all the other story lines. That being said, it was still the best sci-fi show on right now, which is kind of sad.

No one has mentioned the commercial for the new series continuing bsg...how come? Maybe I am wrong but I think in the fall the story is going to be told from the cylon side with some of the same characters...also they showed a commercial for a show called CAPRICA...is this also bsg related?

I quit reading after that.. you can't be serious ? You're referring to the 'original' series where Pa Cartwright played Commander Adama ?
I agree. I watched the original series a couple times in order. It is in no way, shape or form better than the SciFi network's version of the series. Not once did I find myself nearly as involved as I did with the new version. In fact, I had to force myself just to get into it. Once I did I enjoyed it.

Not nearly as much as the new version, though. The effects alone make this one better. I did like how they brought out the old skool Cylons at the Colony. That was a very nice touch.

The spinoff show Caprica has been mentioned on these pages before. It's a "prequel" to BSG. It's the story of how two families (the Adamas and the Graystones) were brought together over the loss of daughters and to religious fanatic's suicide bombs and how the creation of the cylon technology was born. It's independant of BSG in that you supposedly won't have to see BSG to understand what's going on. IIRC, Bill Adamas' father is involved. I'm not sure how because in BSG he was a lawyer. The series is supposed to draw ethical and moral parallels to our modern days.

In all honestly, the original TV series is a must see before the newer series. It tells of the war between man and machine. The the new series tells of how that war was re0ignited and man had to flee to find a new world. Caprica is set before any of that.

As a bonus, Ron Moore weaves a "Daniel" into this series in multiple forms...

One thing I kept hoping to see but didn't was when Sol and Adama are in the strip club, I was hoping they would show the stage and have one of the dancers be a cylon...preferably a number 8...you know a boomer...

Caprica, is a new series, by Ronald Moore and company.. same folks who brought us the new BSG.. Supposedly takes place before the first Cylon War..

There was some commercial for a new BSG movie ? called "The Plan" I think ? From what I've heard, Ronald Moore and team do not have anything to do with that...

Battlestar: The Plan Secrets Teased!

Jane Espenson, who wrote the upcoming movie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, said that the telefilm will retell the initial story of the SCI FI Channel series, but from the perspective of the Cylons, and that it will take advantage of revelations that will come in the upcoming new episodes of the show's fourth and final season.

"The events of The Plan are the events that you've seen ... in the show, from the miniseries to almost the end of season two," Espenson said in an exclusive interview. "So it's that chunk of time, but sort of seen with the Cylon perspective. So you're going to see a lot of stuff that was going on that you weren't aware of at the time: on Caprica, in the fleet. ... This was the time when the Cylons, as depicted in the original show, ... were very mysterious, enemies that would come out of the darkness and retreat. And this is ... what were they really doing all that time: what was the internal stuff. ... A lot of loose ends are tied up, a lot of questions are asked that you don't even know you have."

New BSG is/was better than the original, MHO. Liked the end and the fact that it ended. I could just imagine the show running for seven or eight seasons, running out of stories, and just pulled off the air. No closure, no end. It did feel a bit hurried though. I like the wrap up, but one question: What happened to the old Cylons with the gold commander? What was that about? Were they rogues? What were they guarding? I thought they would play a part, but I was wrong. Mabey "The Plan" will answer that question.

Watched Caprica last night. I think it gets off to a little bit of a slow start and the storyline is somewhat a surprise but I thought it was pretty good overall. If they can live up to the writing for BDG this will be another winner.

The Plan is out today on DVD / Blu-Ray and has gotten very mixed reviews.
